I heard that !!!!!!!! (After those freezing nights at Nagambie, i would have paid more) I got an extra 2in plastic vent .... surely thats worth $500 :confused:

1 drop from that teeny tiny fuel hose would evaporate before it hit the floor

Hi all. I have just bought a new 18.58-1. Not built yet, so do you know if Jayco will fit 1 of these diesel heaters as an extra, or are they an after market installation only ?

Ours was fitted post delivery to Dealer but prior to our picking it up. A mistake made was not choosing to have the higher spec model controller which wasn't much dearer.

Although our 20.63 is 2014, its the 2013 layout i.e. no slide out like yours I suspect. I ditched it because of the weight, so the heater locale wasn't affected by the slideout.

The heater is installed under the couch wing next to the fridge, with the ducts under that seat one facing forward and one towards the back, and ran the cabling up inside the fridge cavity, mounting the controller next to the fridge. They recommend the controller 1500mm off the floor and away from heat, cold or drafts

(PS On a serious note its a great spot and works really well. The ducting suits perfectly. The way the ducting routes, slightly more air comes out of the fridge side which is better. I thought mounting the other duct in the corner and not on the end of the couch may be a boo boo, but its turned out well where it is. I can send you some more pics and measurements etc if you need it)

Hey @Crusty181, thanks for the pics. Even though I have slideout I reckon I may be able to get the heater under the dinette area. I notice you have two outlets, good idea. Can I ask what model heater you have, is it the D2?

My previous Expanda was a 16, and the 16s transfer a lot of cold (and heat) through the poptop skirt and tent sections. The diesel heater (and gas heater I expect) is also a very comfortable and consistant heat, very much like home ducted heating.

The Eberpacher heater has electronic thermostat which is fully automatic, set and forget, and reasonable accurate which will simply wind the heater down faster to run the burner and fan lower and quieter, which is what you want. Comes on hard, and flat out but once its at temp, its barely audible. Had I have known it existed I would have paid the extra bucks for the electronic controller with the scheduling timer ... bit of a wank I know, but I wake up at 6am everyday, so it would suit me; nice a toasty before I get up.

In comparison to my install in the 20.63.1, you have around the same overall internal length as my van when your van is opened up, and with the additional tent section and poptop skirt I would expect the heater to perform exceptionally well.

Im almost a non offical (read stalker) Eberspacher Ambassador, but also have a look at the much cheaper Planar branded models, the guys that have installed them are all happy. Not sure if the the Planar has an electronic controller through, which is a feature I prefer.

D2 heaters at reduced price on Caravansplus website at the moment - just ordered one saving about $500. Still more expensive than Planar, but comes standard with digital controller (Caravansplus price for that alone is $307).
Don't really need it till next year as can't get away at the moment, but will have fun installing it over the next few months and making sure it works.

The digital controller is a great piece of kit, and makes the heater function literally one button operation. My little man happily turns it on and off.

Hi guys I keep hearing negative posts on other van sites that the diesel heaters don't work at sub +3 degree temps. I find this hard to believe but please give me your opinions. Thanks.

If not using "Alpine mix" diesel it might cause problems.
Your not mixing reports with reverse cycle A/C units? They definitely don't work sub +3 deg .
