Just picked ours up minus the track. As for the country of origin, had I known I wouldn't have bothered....... Fair to middlingly disappointed to be quite honest and I haven't yet opened the box, however, regardless of quality I would rather have paid more and kept Australians in business.
Just the way of the 21st century world unfortunately.

@carpanda
The existing privacy screens can (supposedly) be left on but not needed as the new ones have mesh and clear screens fitted. Over here in Wait Awhile State (WA) the sail tracks are extra but with a bit of negotiation can be included ;) Recommend that you do call your supplier and confirm with them.

The sail track is fitted to the outer edge of the hard lid and the bed covers have the rope sewn in along the top edge. The rope is then fed through the sail track as part of the installation. Make sense??

Won't be getting our tracks until next week so will post pics of the installation FYI when done!

Thanks heaps makes sense. Pictures would be great thanks.
:encouragement:

@meandher (a frost) wow u got it!!! Are u the first?

Yep picked them up on Wednesday... Asked the question if they had sold many. One front end sold just before I picked ours up but about 8 orders on hold ( Guessing only 7 now ;) )

I was also a bit taken back when I got them home and saw the place of origin but as you said "Just the way of the 21st century world unfortunately."

Have taken them out of the box but not out of the carry bag yet. Might do that later when home and check the quality!!

Know enough about supply and demand marketing to understand that these guys, as a middle man, have to make a quid. Unfortunately Australian salaries being what they are, to manufacture these here would perhaps take 2-3 man hours and maybe more. Add the cost of the materials, suitable packaging, freight to capital cities, fixed overheads etc. as a basis for a landed cost, then after marking up for profit that allows you to eat, you would be looking at a retail price of upwards of $600 for small volume manufacture per piece.

As we all know, we all look for cheapest cost with best quality and unfortunately you seldom get the both words (cheap and best) together in the same sentence. I am as parochial as the next Australian, probably more so with my Northern UK heritage. The town I come from has 34% + unemployment- some families haven't had work since the Greengrocer's daughter was mistakenly swept to power in a wave of national fervour not seen since the war years. Yet, you can't help but get the feeling that Australia as a manufacturing nation is coughing up blood, if not completely dead. Looking at the follies foisted on the Brits, I see a parallel with the old country, just 20 years out of step and it chills me to think that faceless politicians sit around on their arses seeing what happened there and are just letting it happen here without the merest hint of a whimper. Sure some outmoded and feather bedded industries needed to go but several babies are being thrown out in the smelly bath water here.

For me, the box sits in the study where I left it. I am not even all that interested in what these things look like and will get around to evaluation when what I am feeling wears off. I am by no means a left wing patriot, but if we don't do something as a country soon to combat loss of Australian manufacture it will not matter a jot when the ones that are still lucky enough to have a job are all working for overseas companies and little benefit flows to the country's populace. It shouldn't just take a dummy like me to realise this. Far smarter minds than I have the ability to induce a change, yet no matter which side of the political divide we find ourselves, we keep electing people who fiddle whilst Canberra burns.

.

Try at least 6 hours mate, the set I made with no patterns took about 12 hours.

So by your figures the small aussie manufacturers are doing quite a good job sell them for $990 for 2.

You could, as is your right as a consumer, return the unused goods to Jayco and order a set of locally made covers. If you feel that strongly about local jobs.
:)

Are they made in Australia?
Answered.
At least with these crustt we have a choice. I have always dealt with local canvas makers and always had good service (Tebbs and Alpine).
Unfortunately with other products we don't have a choice.

Just as I suspected.....made in China!
One of the main factors why I packed up my business after 19 years and moved it home.....the more we buy from overseas the more job losses....and yes our government sucks! Rant over......

Off Topic.. Soon there will not be many jobs left in Australia which is sad although we all want something cheaper so most of us are to blame.
Well I could not believe the other week the kids paddlepop was made in China.. So it is cheaper to make and transport frozen icy poles from China :(

I work in IT did you know there was a skills shortage in IT. Well that is the excuse they use to replace people with someone on a 457 Visa. For the last 10+ years I have and others constantly wait to get replaced, oh can you please train the person stealing your job on the way out. Lost one job I had for 13 years and spent 9 months looking for work... Lost the role I had recently although moved sideways into another luckily. Those of us left have to justify almost daily why the work cannot be done O/S. Over 27 years in a niche field and I get asked can I do handover in 2-6 weeks to someone who never used the system. You know the sad part all the Indians I work with are desperately trying to get out to Australia to work and live. Which is weird as the job they will get will be offshored back to someone from there home country.

I really wonder what work will be left in Australia soon.

Another update for the other people in WA (Wait Awhile)........
Called in to pick up the sail tracks this afternoon and guess what??????? Still in a truck somewhere across the Nullabor >:(
New young guy looking after the place while others must have been enjoying lunch and didn't know when they'll be in!!
Asked me I wanted to leave contact details and they'll ring when in..... I replied "Nahhhh I'll call back in another two weeks and check"..

So no installation to be done this week so called and picked up the new HR towbar for the Prado then into Ironman 4x4 to pick up a snorkel to give me something to do over the weekend. And guess what??????? Snorkel hasn't even left Melbourne yet :o

I swear Jayco and Ironman are one and the same!!!!!!!!!

End of rant........

PS: Looks like I might have to look on Mrs Dagree's long list of things that need doing :ballchain:

Didn't hear it from me but the sail track has arrived

Thanks for the heads up @rodney :encouragement:
Luckily I didn't see your post earlier otherwise I would've popped in for a set... Don't think the "Boss" would have been impressed as I've started on her "list" of things to do.

Will pop in during the week and grab some!
