My 14 year old son reading a book...yes I was really shocked too. It was a book written by Bear Grylls, so acceptable reading whilst camping.
Truck tubes for floating down the river, really tough and can handle dragging over rocks.
Newnes is on my list @BigSkiddy because @relgate keeps telling me how good it is there. We may head there next year to check it out for ourselves.
Forgot to post this, but went to Wombeyan Caves Campground weekend before Easter. Campground was okay, however the facilities are a bit run down. There are powered sites, although I just stayed off the grid with my diesel heater. Spent the Friday night at Bummaroo, was okay for a stopover but didn't seem to be much to do there. Plenty of room for big rigs, road is a little narrow but you can get through okay from the Goulburn side.
Also went to Big4 Hunter Valley in June. Left the kids at home and it was just me and the wife. Had a great time. Really can't comment much on the park as we didn't use the facilities and pretty much spent most of the day at the wineries, returning after dark. $42 for two nights (powered site) was a cheap weekend in the Hunter, if you don't include the wine bill .
I got a drive thru site. You'll need every mm of your 10m sullage, hose as the drain is at the very end of the site.

Other Discovery owners might notice that I have partially de-badge my van. Got rid of the 'sun'.

Its a pretty good park, have stayed there several times, looks like they've added new cabins since the last time we stayed, they also own the other park in Cessnock out on Wine Country Drive
Just looked up their web site and the rate is $35/night less membership 10% (and that was mid week) so nowhere near your $42 for a weekend. But it is a bit further than I wanted to travel anyway.

Nice! Looks peaceful so can spread out like a free camp. I'd imagine it would have been packed last week.
