More work done today :):):)

Today Pierre got some backup power put in. A second battery, bcdc1225-lv and an extra socket in the boot. Also got a little voltmeter installed to monitor the charge. I really enjoyed doing all the wiring for the expanda but thought that I might leave this one to the experts.
Very happy with the job!!!

Finally set up a hot date between these two.

The Redarc Tow Pro performed effortlessly and accurately after calibration, which was a sinch.
Unfortunately we were unable to head away for the night, but we just did a leisurely 60 or so kilometre drive to see how the van and tug got along.
It was nice to have that extra bit of power when reversing up our driveway. Over the 60km round trip the Prado returned 15l/100km; a little more than the Territory, but I expected that. We are heading away on the first weekend of the holidays to the Murray for a week, which I cannot wait for.

Cash to splash has dried up for a while now, so there wont be any mods to either the prado or the expanda for a while. But thats ok...we will be out making the most of both of them!

Cheers.

@Kenshi123 - nice spot for the Towpro controller. I have to decide if this or one of spare slots near the 12v socket would be best. Not sure which yet.

originally I was going for the panels either side of my knees, but found I had to take my eyes off the road or fumble around to find and press brakes.

Fantastic @Kenshi123 can you run us through the Tow Pro set up and how you found it?

Yeah no worries mate.
Installation was done at our local Auto Elecs and they specialise in Redarc gear, which is great.

When I hooked the expanda up the Tow Pro was flashing green/blue, which meant no calibration. As I have to drive down a rather steep driveway I put it in Manual mode (hold foot on brake and press Tow Pro head unit twice).
Once down the driveway I drove to a quiet stretch of road and switched to auto mode. The unit flashed green and blue indicating that it was still out of calibration. All I had to do was drive straight for about 20 seconds and the Tow Pro auto calibrated. It was an interesting 20 seconds as the unit applied to brakes at random as I was driving, so I recommend doing this on a very quiet and straight stretch of road if you can.
From then the unit worked very well and I enjoyed not having to rotate the dial throughout the trip as I had to with our last unit. The harder I braked, the harder the Tow Pro would apply the Expanda brakes...it't that simple.

I will be able to let you know more once I have taken her out for a longer trip, but very happy so far.

Yeah I am pretty happy with the location of the controls mate. It makes for an easy glance down if need be rather than look around the obstructing steering wheel.

Hi mate,
Another nice looking 150!

Thought I'd put something on your Rig building addition list.

As you've now increased the weight forward of your drive shafts considerably you should definitely consider installing some heavy duty springs up front soon...
After the bar and batts were fitted to mine I had Pedders throw a set of Heavy duty /stock height Trakryder springs into mine for under $300.
Money well spent IMHO!

Cheers,
Sunny
