definitely hasn't been fixed with newer toyotas and other newer common rail diesel engines. it is happening in land cruisers, hilux's with Toyota as well. bit of light reading here.... Thats why I bought a petrol after having a diesel. cheaper to service, quieter to drive in and better power. yes a little more in fuel but cheaper repair bills.
couple of hundred pages of info here. Main thing is just keep on top of servicing and a lot of people swear bear water watch style systems. Lots of people are changing them every 100,000kms but you are up for thousands of dollars in parts alone to do this.
