I have had the outback in a last car. This time around i toyed with the idea for a while, then decided i could do them myself. So i used a combo method.
Used a "C" shaped steel section (i had this folded) for the 3 uprights (maximize space) then made 2 timber draws. One bigger than the other, this is so i can put my drop slide on the top. of the larger draw. Then covered in carpet, and filled in the side panels and end panels to appear like an outback set. I found it extremely frustrating to have to pit the fridge up to open the draws. With 2 different size draws i can have 1 draw open while still having the fridge down.
I used a draw slide for "Universal engineering Supplies" I used blind nuts pulled into the timber and used M6 cap screws to attach. I went with blind nuts as they have more surface area and less likely to work in the timber than self tapping screws.
I also have blind nuts fitted under the top so i can pull the drop slide in and out with ease and not stripped the timber. But i am yet to fit and take photos of the slide.
I have some progress shots (complete with photo bomb by my helper), but none of the finished product. I was going to get some in the weekend and post in my thread. Total cost for carpet, screws, timber, runners etc was $591.
Just realised they are not in my build, so here is what i have. Did not take any of the finished product and need to update my build.
For the time and saving i would do it for sure, very easy and i did mine in a weekend.
