We are in the process of getting pricing for a Mazda BT 50 XTR 2WD. For the people who have them, what WDS are you using. The dilema we have is there is a delay of 8-10 weeks to get a car however we might be picking our van up in around 4 weeks. I do not want to fit electric brakes in a car for 6 weeks and I don't want to buy a wds if I dont need one. If I do, then I would want to buy one which I can swap between cars. Has anyone ever done a short term install of electric brakes?

We really like the BT50 but we are not 4WD'ers so 2 WD will do and there is also a massive price difference.

We are getting a 16 series expanda, so its not too large.

Hopefully questions not too stupid

No they are not good looking trucks in some eyes, I just want a safe and reliable vehicle and not something old and unreliable!:tongue::tongue:

Seriously, reliable options in this class are:
-Ranger, wait is longer than Mazda but by all accounts is a good car.
-Mazda, similar car that my wife likes.
-Colorado, test drove did not like.
-VW, no affordable auto.
-Hilux, poor safety rating, new one will be good but cannot wait that long.
-Dmax, lower tow rating.
-Triton, not my cup off tea, but great warranty.
-Great wall and Ssang Yong, not interested in looking at.

I think thats all of them

I love my BT, though a decent bar on the front will make a difference.
I tow my 17.56 with out a drama, don't think I need a Wdh.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Mick, I was hoping I did not need a Wdh but if I did I was hoping to buy one that would suit both vehicles. See what other opinions we get before making a decision.

Thanks Geoff

We will be towing ours with the hr wdh. Havent yet because we haven't got enough kms on the bt-50! We didn't "need" one with the patrol but did and it towed a whole lot better. Dad uses the same with his van and ranger

How many K's do you need before you can tow on the BT 50. Just signed up today, vehicle in stock so we will get it next week hopefully. Just need ARB to get the canopy on asap.

Geoff, Mazda recommends 1000km, I waited for 2500km before I towed.

We should be fine, Expanda going down the line on Tuesday (birthday), probably take a few weeks to get to dealer, so we should be able to easily get 1000 plus k's by then.

We waited about 1500km before towing with ours. They are great to tow with!

They are popular too, i see them everywhere now.

Enjoy the new toy:p

Looking forward to getting it. Hard to find them in stock at the moment. Other dealers said 10 week wait. Just waiting for the ARB canopy and racks to be fitted. I will fit reverse sensors and camera myself.

So is there any news on a new Hilux that will have a more modern engine and a tow limit to match the new BT/ranger.
