As Jed said don't worry about who's behind you (it's damn near impossible to control vehicles behind you anyway in urban areas), just keep your distance from the traffic in front and take turns nice and wide till you learn your limits. I usually set the cruise control to just under 90 on the freeways and highways and that normally takes care of the tailgaters and turkeys cutting you off, not to mention the fuel savings.
