Well disappointing day today. My poor prado got rear ended on the Centenary Hwy by a truck that pushed me into the Ford Ranger that was in front of me.

At first glance looked like it was just bullbar damage. I then stopped at a servo on the rest of the way through (car was driving fine BTW) and closer inspection showed that it looks like that bullbar has pushed the front end of the car towards the windscreen and also downwards.

The back of the car where the truck actually hit, there was no panel damage at all, i guess he hit the spare wheel on the door straight on, but opening the door provided more mis-alignments also.

Not sure however I think it has probably twisted the car :(

Can't believe that I have to wait until next Tuesday afternoon for NRMA to assess the car. Last car accident i had was over 10yrs ago and they assessed it the next day.

Bummer mate, glad your ok though! Maybe an upgrade?

Yeah mate maybe. See how the bank balance goes. We have been looking at Diesel Prados since January but the bank balance just hasn't been in the right spot for it. Maybe the hand is being forced as I think that it will get written off as it does look twisted to an untrained eye.

Did you take it to your own repairer or one of theirs?

It goes into the assessment centre next Tuesday where they make a decision at that time. So seems like a fairly lengthy process.
Especially when I have my Van down the gold coast having warranty work done... oh well will have to see if i can borrow my in laws prado to pick the van up..

Must be different in QLD to NSW....

With NRMA I can take it to my choice of repairer who qoutes the job and NRMA approves / declines / sends out there assesor to check it over.

But maybe different in QLD?

expanda - that is what has occurred last time - 10yrs ago+, that i had an accident, take it to either authorised repairer or other and then their assessor will get those quotes and make a decision.
I think i will call them back now I have had more time to think about things.
Cheers

Found out it is just QLD procedure with NRMA to goto their assessor first and then the work gets signed off at that stage.
All other states are as you say above, take to an authorised repair agent or your own and then they accept the work etc.

That's a bugger ants, how does a truck not see a Prado. I can feel a 150 series comin on.... :) Good to hear you are ok. We are just in the process of getting ours fixed from a minor rear ender, my advice if they do decide to repair, if you even suspect the towing gear got a whack get it inspected by towing gear specialists not smash repair. NRMA were very happy for me to take it to Arrow tow bars, they are the Hayman Reece distributors in Brissy. We got ours replaced, NRMA werent interested in taking chances with stress fractures, which made me very happy, saved me pushing them cause that's what I wanted also. Hope it all goes well. HM

That's really tough, Ants but I'm glad everyone is OK.

Saw your van at ECR last week so I guess it should be ready late this week. If I can help by picking it up for you, just let me know. I'll be glad to take it home to you.

Sorry to read the news Antman, but glad you're OK. Lucky the Expanda wasn't on the back.
I had a truck rear end my Swan years ago, could have throttled the driver. The crumple zone on the Swan extends half way to the kitchen sink.

car didn't look too bad tonight after having some time to have a good look at it. The back door is cactus, the bullbar and all of its connecting plates are cactus, both headlights are broken. Grill no longer screws in as the plastic has snapped. However, it does not look like any major structural damage to an untrained eye... in my mechanical opinion... hmm wait till next week when NRMA see it.

Yes very lucky the van was not on the back would have made right royal mess.

expanda Yes next week :( waiting sucks.

Holden_man thanks for the tip regarding the tow bar. I didn't have the hitch in luckily or i think it would have been cactus also. Don't think i will be getting a 150 though, the bank balance just won't stretch that far. Have toyed with the idea of a Territory however.

chartrock thanks very much mate for your kind offer. My father in law currently has two prados setup for towing so sure i can borrow one of these. BTW anyone looking for a 97 model manual prado let me know as my father in law is selling his.

Xpandafan that sucks about your swan back then. People just drive too close to each other and don't take care.

bigman0510 Yup have already done that when my wifes car came up was actually just waiting for policy to expire to move it.

Well took the Prado to NRMA today and all will be fixed so happy days. :)
Whilst i would love to upgrade to a diesel now wasn't the right time and if I had of been pushed into it I would not have gotten the car i wanted purely based on price.
Can't wait to get it fixed. :)
