Monday, we sign off on the final plan of the 20.63.1OB

It was a long and quite discouraging experience, but in the end despite every hurdle and frustratingly infuriating interference that was placed in our path, and repeated no no no's, we manage to end up with a result we're happy with.

We are due off the line on Oct 7th, and delivery some stage after that I suppose

This forum and your forum'ittes have been a gold mine of info and offerings thats been invaluable.

So add one humble Crusty to the elite and noble 20.63.1 family

I have battled with the dealer who says Jayco will not move the battery on our new Journey 17-55-9, 2' back so it is sitting over the wheels. The battery, although probably weighing about 30 Kg, is already nearly 15' back from the ball but they wont shift it back a bit further as "it will make the ball weight to light". That far back from the ball it is probably putting about 5 Kg on the ball so it goes over the wheels and takes it all off. Big deal. :argue:

Ive found the Chinese whisper ordering system with the dealer guessing what Jayco will or won't do very odd and very frustrating. Its panned out that the dealer guessed wrong on many questions. What the dealer poo poo'ed without checking, Jayco have in the end happily done. I suppose we have been lucky its work out, but I can now see how we could have easily agreed to a van that was not what we preferred, simply because the dealer guessed, didn't understand, or refused to research properly.

I notice you have a Navara D40 which I presume you'll tow your 20.63 with. The weight would be very close to the cars capacity ... ?

Yeah we originally worried about that, but have since discovered a few other people on this forum that tow a 20.63 or similar weight with a Navara without any issues :)

Do you have the 2.5lt Navara? I decided to delete the slide out to save that bit of weight that added enough of a buffer for my peace of mind. We loose 250mm on the seat returns, but gain 300mm on the seat across the window. I originally wanted the door hinged on the left, but they refused. After reading your list of options I pushed the issue. Jaycos response was it will impact on the front awning arm. I measured the display van and it would certainly mess with the annex, so we relented in the end. Most of the other options, despite what the dealer said, have been signed off on.

Yeah we have the 2.5lt Navara. We are getting the slide-out, as that was one of the main features that I really liked about the 20.63-1.

Re the left hinged door, we are still trying to get that one across the line - we were told the same thing by Jayco H/O, however I have also taken measurements of another 20.63 and there seems to be plenty of room for it to swing left - we don't have / use an annex though, so I don't know how that makes a difference? (forgive my ignorance lol)

What were your measurements just out of interest? Would be interesting to see if there are any variances - I will go and dig mine out now :)

@Crusty181 we have a similar problem with the Starcraft and window and door. The wife had this idea.. We will see how well it works when we are away next check out our thread. Yes stupid did not notice to someone else told us.. May pickup we did not have the windows open on first trips. We also found we got poo poo'd on changes as well. Showed a picture of the same van on the trading post to get wheel on rear.

I didn't write down the measurement. I think the door may have just cleared the awning arm, but the measurement of the door put it way past the awning fabric line which is where the annex wall would need to be in line with ..... and we have the annex.

The dealer offered to replace the door at my expense .... $1300. I politely said nick off. I worked out I could flip the door, which would only put the skinny window at the bottom. But the annex is our issue.

Im way ahead of you Dave. My partner suggested a similar solution, or should I say she suggested I should work out a long sticky/hooky/thingy. I coincidently later found your pics. Brilliant idea, which we will be stealing before you patent it. It is dumb founding someone could be so stupid as to render a huge window like that effectively useless, its another level again when the entire design office agreed to do it.

Ok no worries - yeah we don't have an annexe and according to my measurements it will fit just fine, which is my current argument with Jayco H/O - my local dealer has been great with this issue and has 'gone into bat for me' as well, so I am really hoping for a good outcome.

I think when you are spending that kind of money on something, you should be able to get what you want - particularly when there is no reason why it cant be done (ie not fitting etc).

Anyway, will see what happens over the next few days!

A better kind of wrong, i like that. Yep if only they pushed the door a couple of inches to the right and the annexe a couple to the left with a left swing door it would be perfect. But then it wouldn't be a jayco would it :) :)
