About to go on our first trip....and like to stirfry. Wondering whether or not the filter in the rangehood can be cleaned or replaced...or if it even has a filter. Does anyone know if it is accessible to clean? Has anyone cleaned theirs? Thanks for your help

What type/model is it ?
Ours does not have a filter and vents straight out thru a small hole in the wall.
It is useless as it does not draw enough fumes out and always sets the smoke alarm off whenever the stove is used.

ALWAYS do stir fries outside on a $20 butane stove, gives me the high heat that the wok needs and the smoking oil, chilli, ginger, spice fumes don't fill van and no splatters. My range hood unscrews easily enough but nothing in the way of a filter in there, it's literally a heat/steam exhaust fan to outside.

Same as Xpandafan, cook on a Butane stove outside and have never cooked inside.
I think the Mrs once boiled water in our old van!

Like it! Our kettle does get a good work out (we're tea, cappuccino pre-mix, or hot-chocolate fans) and we use also use the stove a little bit for veggies, basics like creme caramel, and toast (if it's cold outside and we're off mains). The light on the range-hood gets more use than the fan though.
The butane stove(s) and the BabyQ are essentials. Our cheap steel wok with handles and lid (from local Asian grocer) has lasted us for years and is beautifully seasoned, easily wiped clean, and bullet proof. Use it for fish and chips as well. Cooks fast enough to feed a small army.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Packed the butane stove for stir frying/frying and bringing the coleman roadtrip grill for bbqs. Unfortunately cant connect it to the outside gas bayonet....but we arent really weberQ fans

It does seem dumb to put in a useless rangehood. Surely the cost of putting in one that worked would not be much more. And I thought it was just mine. Like the $20 burner idea, thanks

No filter as such, I did remove the round disc vent things to wash them, I also removed the light as to wash the surround plate, lets just say it was a big P-I-A to get the spring clips back with leather glove on to avoid ripping the crap out of my fingers on the sharp edges

Got 2 of those Butane stoves, dont use them much now with the webber but still come in handy.

Seems to always rain when we go away so we've cooked inside a number of times. Nothing too messy, but we often do pasta or vegies/mash inside. Rangehood helps to get the steam/moisture out of the van. I might be immune, but I'm pretty sure there is no n noticeable residual smells.
Always do meat and messy stuff outside on the BBQ

What about a proper gas cooker for outside, you can hook them up to your bayonet if you get the correct hose. When I am away in the van, I would rather cook outside. They do twin burner models as well.

its funny really. We have these really well specd kitchens, but don't use them! I'm coming from a soft floor camper where the kitchen is outside, so will most likely continue this with the expanda when it arrives.

Hi Zammm. So there is hope then! I took the coleman hose to Jayco in Adelaide, but was told they couldn't help. They only sold bayonet hoses for weberQs. They recommended we find a gas specialist

interesting how they all have a different story to tell. You could call the Jayco I went to (Page Bros in Seaford Melbourne) to see if they can help in some way.

It depends on each appliance, but normally if the hose of the appliance has a regulator of some description built into it (see image),then there is a good chance a bayonet hose can be fitted and they are available in all configurations as well. But if you have a high pressure appliance, like the old Primus two burner stoves, or one where the hose does not have a regulator and connects directly to the gas bottle then you can't hook that appliance up to a bayonet.

You can only fit a regulated appliance to a bayonet.

Thanks for that. The Coleman Roadtrip Grill does have a regulator built in to the hose. So I'll just have to start asking around for somewhere to buy something suitable
