Value for money 2016 -17 WK 2Grand Cherokee 3 litre diesel .Not Quadralift suspension.Plenty of aftermarket goodies now available for the WK2s.Have a 2012 WK2 and a 2010 WH both been very reliable. I think Toyota have had more combined vehicle recalls than most makes in recent times. Now this DPF saga will be a doozy.Plenty of other makes having similar problems.Owners being told wrong oils being used etc I know a tech guy at Penrite oils.He said in Aust nearly all manufactures are recommending too light a grade oil in their 4x4 turbo vehicles.Hot weather ,towing large vans means more blow by with associated problems
Isn't it the oil companies that are developing the thinner high-pressure synthetic oils, and the cars companies just playing catch up. The thinner oils may not be performing very well (I have no clue about that) but that would come back to the oil manufacturers. Vehicle engineers would be designing engines around the specs provided by the oil manufacturers, it doesn't make any sense they would be just rolling the dice and pouring in their very best uneducated oil guess. It serves the car maker in no way to take the oil manufacturers recommendations and then flush them. Jamming thicker oil into an engine with tolerances engineered for the specs of the $hitty underperforming thinner oil probably isn't the answer either. Another wonderful example of finger-pointing and everyone blaming each other.

We had an interesting experience when we first got the LC200 a fuel filter light started to flash so quickly looked up the manual and then googled Toyota dealers, we were 20 minutes from the dealer in Jamestown SA and rang them and they said if it is flashing safe to drive to them so we did and on the spot they changed the fuel filter and $95 later we were on our way with new fuel filter and problem solved. We were very impressed.
The fuel filter on the LC isn't a service interval item, change it when the light comes on, which could easily happen a loooong way from a service agent. I've done the crash course in changing the filter and will carry a spare onboard. At $35, Ill also have it routinely changed at every 20k service

We have chosen the landcruiser. Haven’t purchased one yet, that cash can earn interest until the time LOL.
It’s GXL VS VX, prob the slightly newer GXL

Hi @RobRoy
Good choice I would say!
We are going down the same path, assuming no last minute back flips haha
Similarly just weighing up which model exactly and what options to add.
Bring on October! haha

Also now carry two spare fuel filters and have a "Water Watch" fitted and get the fuel filter changed every 20K. Cheap insurance.

Also get Toyota to drain the Auto Transmission Fluid every 30K to 40K and keep a sample and so far it does not smell burnt, but it is getting darker. We have towed about 60K out of 78K in the LC200. I do not believe in lifetime Auto Transmission Fluid, but Toyota seems to think so. Local Toyota Service manager thinks it is a good idea, Toyota charge about $100 for this including fluid (I do not replace all fluid).

I have two months to buy a new car as the 20.64 arrives in October.
Brain says 200, heart says Disco.
I will probably be buy a 2017 model of either and potentially doing the lap.
I am chasing the opinion of seasoned campaigners.
I have a 05 lr3s on coils tows a 16ft expanda with ease runs at around 10/14 l/100 towing. Parts are expensive compared to some 4*4s but on a par with others like the landy's/Nissan. I have owned both and 2*disco's mk1/3 and 1*range rover so would given the choice would buy a landy everytime

Unfortunately you are correct what I should have added is that I would not go past the lr4 which by all accounts is more than capable of towing a substantial sized van

We had a GXL overnight to rest drive. Fantastic car. Amazing condition. Deal fell through by $1000. In readable how the friendly chatty salesman instantly turned all business and a bit aggressive in his office. We will start again

Well fellas, we have (well, my wife does, truth be told) the new Disco TD6 HSE and I reckon its a fantastic car. Tows 3 tonne of Expanda without an issue whatsoever! Very very comfortable and a great drive when the van is not attached. The gap between Range Rover and Landrover has never been so slight.

I reckon something about 2 yrs old is usually better value than new less hassle and not to mention less time spent with dealers getting shafted.
