Yeah Jayco told me a few weeks ago that they are not doing it anymore. They told me to go to an automotive engineer. So I did. I tracked down an auto engineer who will provide a VASS Approval Certificate from a signatory of the Vehicle Assessment Signatory Scheme (VASS). I'm going through the process right now. I'm upgrading my safety chains and adding a couple of stiffening plates tomorrow. Then the auto engineer will come back out, check it and write the report that I take to VicRoads to have the details changed. I'll let you know how it goes.

Not at all...$350. Had another quote at $500 but he was up near Ballarat. Haven't got all the figures but the payload will increase by about 400kg. I don't need all that but I know I sit on around 650-680kg payload when we free camp with all the extra stuff required. My current payload is 475kg, so if I'm caught or have an accident I'm potentially screwed!! It'll be a nice feeling to be legal when I travel

It all depends on what the axle rating is how far you can go before you need to upgrade the whole running gear set up especially on the single axle rigs, then it becomes expensive.

How do I find out the rating on my single axle Dec 2010 16.41 tourer? Thx

With most it should be on the compliance plate if not for a single axle its generally taken that a 50mm square straight axle is 2 ton but hub/ bearings and rim LRs have to be taken into consideration including tyres. The springs need to be a certain size to get that LR also which off hand I think is 50 or 60mm with a 5 pack, not sure and no reference books with me..
So numerous items need the boxes ticked and that's just for beam axles its another world for the others...

For my learned friends :)
Mine has Axle load capacity at 2900 and ATM 2780 GTM 2559.. So that means I have 120kg or 331kg the most I can upgrade if I went that way.
You assume 331kg as the TBM mass is not on the axles?
Although pretty sure you need the chassis mass rating and the wheels as well just to make things un clear :)

Hi @Crusty181 The engineer came to my work (in SE Melb) to look at the van (I think he had other clients in my area). He told me he had bought a van and a car to match and was thinking about retiring soon. I'll check with him first before posting his details. If he is not keen, then I'll ask him if he knows of anyone else doing upgrades for vans that is also a VASS signatory (i.e. can provide the VASS certificate for VicRoads)
