Well the LED's arrived today, and replaced all the remaining bulbs with the new 36 LED panels.
Went with the cool white and looks great, really lights the van up nicely.

Very Happy. Thanks to all for their help and advice.

Hi Holdenman.

Probably late advice but make sure you put a blob of silicon on the lights to help the double sided tape keep hold. All my lights dropped as the heat from the panel made the tape lose its grip and fall down. I bought some good 3M double sided tape from Bunnings and it eventually did the same.

My mate did the same but used silicon and his are still attached. I opted to change my lights back to LED plug in globes to prevent this ever happening. I wasn`t a fan of the tiny little wires that sometimes had bad connections and made the light go out too. Always jiggling them to get the light going I found annoying.

Hi Coastrunner, when you get a chance could you post up a pic of your globes? I have the 36's the same but i also have recently bought some 24's with the T10 base, so plug in with no tape as you have said, curious to know if yours are the same. Did you buy from Hong Kong?

Cheers.

Even better Burnsy.

I found some more on ebay from Hong Kong.

See link & pics below.

I originally used the 36smd globes which I found worked well, but then spotted the 42 smd led globes that I put in afterwards.

My personal opinion was that both were a better alternative to the flat panels.

No fiddly litle wires, no messy double sided tape or silicon needed.

Just plug in and forget.

Hiya Boots.

Good to see you pop up in here again.

Kinda loss my sense of adventure when trying to remove all that yukky annoying double sided tape residue :violin:

When I spotted these 36 and 42 smd led globes that needed no tape or silicon, I thought I`d give them a go

I still rate your LED thread as the number one thread in the whole site, and LED lights the number one mod too. :first:

Just went with the newer models. You know how it is. :clap2::clap2:

Hi guys.

This is not really caravan related but thought it's something you all may want to consider.

After converting my Expanda lights over to LED I was really impressed with just how much less power I was saving.

I thought if I can do this to my caravan, is it possible to do this with my house and get the same sort of savings.

So once again I jumped on ebay and had a little look around and see what I found.

I`ve since converted every light in my house to LED and have now seen a significant drop in my power bill.

I did a rough calculation and estimated that my lights possibly use 50% of my total house power.

So what if I can drop that half of my power by 90%?

I had alot of 240Volt down lights running through transformers to 12 volts. I originally used the 12 volt down lights, as I did in my caravan range hood. They went ok, but I eventually removed all my transformers and installed 240Volt LED down lights.

My last power bill showed that I have used 30% less power than the bill same time last year.

Just thought I`d throw this out there!:clap2::cheer2::clap2::cheer2::cheer2:

Hi Coastrunner, thanks for the links, I'm in the process of doing just that and have ordered some last week. Great minds think alike :D

Cheers.

Gday Guys
I hope you have better luck with those LED's than I did over the last 5 years. I found they were great as long as the power supplied to them was almost always exactly 12.0v dc ... but after a good day on solar or whilst charging from gennie the voltage coming from the battery was 12.0 up to 13.7v ... and after a while they get dimmer (slowly) and died.
Now yours may be better than any of mine but I did go through many (probably 5 different types) before coming across some that were tolerant of (slightly) different input voltages.
If you start to smell a sulphur smell ... then you are close to them going!
cheers

Thanks Bugs.

I guess I`ve been lucky and only ever had one start flickering, but I found that was a faulty light rather than anything else. I`ve accidentally left mine on all night and still found them on and working the next day.

As far as the house goes, same again. One or two have failed but the other 50 I purchased are all working well.
