Well its been a while since i updated anything with our van. Yesterday we installed carpet into the van to give some protection from the cold as we are travelling south in September. I have seen others on here carpet their vans also for the same reason.

We look around at different options and decided on a carpet from Masters that was $48 per linear meter @ 3.6m wide. So we only required a 2meter length costing just under $100 for the whole van. This allowed me to cut the carpet in 1 piece having no joins at all as the inside floor length of the van is 3.7m. We had decided that only a small portion of the van would not be covered with this option and we would have a mat there anyway. :)

As you can imagine putting a piece of carpet in the van of this size to cut it to shape would be basically impossible so I got a whole heap of cardboard that i had at home and made a cardboard template stuck together. I made this in two pieces so that i would be able to get it out of the van to place over the carpet. We marked the template on the carpet with chalk and cut it out slightly oversized using both a nice sharp stanley knife and scissors. We took the carpet into the van and then trimmed to fit with scissors only inside.

What we need to be aware of is that this carpet is not rubber backed so if any liquid is spilt we will have to be very particular with cleaning up underneath the carpet so as that the floor does not get damaged etc. We decided on non-rubber backed for weight and cost.

Here are the pics.

I Should also note that this carpet has a very nice soft backing so that it won't scratch the flooring underneath. If you look at pic1030386 you can can see my wife showing the underside of the carpet. As it is nice and soft, it is also slippery. Being in one big piece the carpet doesn't move however we have also purchased a big roll of the non-slip rubber drawer liners to place underneath the edges or places that move if any. We have put this stuff underneath near the bed ends as it did slip yesterday and once it went under it didn't slip then. :)

Great mod @Antman looks like a factory option in the photos. I had some old carpet off cuts in my old van just under the dinette mainly and it made a huge difference to the feel under foot. Nice work:thumb:
