Sometime between late April and early June depends on which road we end up taking.... Not at the moment, too hot and damp.

Mate coming over from Wait Awhile rang me this morning, hoping I could plot him a course to Rocky from SA, boy lots of red markers on the maps today..... he's going to run to Broken Hill, Cobar, Bourke, Cunnamulla, St George, Roma and up to Emerald seems the most likely to stay dry.

Noticed the road from Cunnamulla to Thargomindah is closed at Eulo and lots long the border to Tenterfield....... Free camp at Texas is under water along with many others I imagine..........

Just arrived in Charleville from SA, had to come up via Broken Hill, Cobar & Cunnamulla. Wanted go from BH to Tibooburra and up but not a hope.
Spent last night at Wyandra where I spoke to truckies heading south and they reckon all the trucks are using that route because it's the only sure way of getting through. There was a couple of spots between Cunnamulla & Wyandra that had very shallow running water over the road but not enough to stop a Holden Commy little own a 4x4.
On a good note it's been dry out here the last 5 days so hopefully some roads will be reopened this week.
There is water everywhere and the locals all have an ear to ear grin.

Slight aside here. The caravan park in Jundah is great, $18 per night or stay 3 get 4 for a powered site.
Amenities are good, the pub is literally next door and Warren, the publican is a real character. Really glad we stopped for a few nights.

25JUN21..................... Well travellers, if your lucky enough to be wandering around western QLD and hope to run some dirt check the QLD Traffic App or local council sites as lots of dirt roads are closed again even a couple that aren't dirt............... main sealed roads seem clear but if thinking of running near the deserts check first or at least make sure you have your can opener with you.

QUILPIE Shire Council QLd - Road report.

"6:30 a.m. Tuesday 25/01/22 Road Update
Lots of water around. In general, please stay off the gravel roads as the damage you may cause will be there for a long time.
Current known issues
Quilpie Thargomindah over at South Comongin 1.05 m over the deck. Detour via Old Charleville and Napoleon Roads.
Adavale Red Road over at Blackwater Crossing. Currently 150 mm but likely to rise again.
Adavale Black Road closed throughout but approximately 1.0 m over at Gunnadorah Bridge.
The Bulloo is rising gradually in Quilpie and it is likely that there will be water on the bridge deck later today. Current trends show it is unlikely to close however it will close if more than 300mm of water is on the deck. We will keep you posted. Please don’t play in the water. It’s full of angry insects and the occasional grumpy snake.
A good day to stay put . Remember, if it’s flooded, forget it. "

Time for an Update and its not much better, been obvious what its been like but the roads west of Windorah, South of Bedourie and east/south of Birdsville still have closed on them, most of the dirt roads are closed all over, with quite a few out around Longreach way either closed or FWD only which means certainly not for vans hanging off the back, Richmond and Hughendon is certainly the long way round .......... Hebel to Dirinbandi has a closed sign and you can bet the road will be pretty stuffed when it opens again, lots of side roads around St George area to Dalby district are similar and in that country want to stay away from any narrow sealed or dirt roads..

Council sites have info as well as https://qldtraffic.qld.gov.au/ or find the links above, for the moment I think I'll stay put for awhile, its not fun in the mud .....

Be real nice to be out there getting a first hand look too...8-)

So long as you don't have to get out the shovel ............. usually the sealed roads are okay but the dirt roads can change so quickly and after rain can still give you curry until a blade gets over them......... often see where the uninitiated learn that if it looks hard and dry it quite possibly isn't... I would like to be heading out to see the Cooper again.

Bit more for the far west corner of QLD;

❗
BIRDSVILLE POLICE ADVISE TRAVELLERS TO CHECK TRAVEL PLANS AND ROAD CONDITIONS DUE TO FLOODING
❗
️

Are you travelling around Birdsville any time soon?
Roads into town via the Birdsville Track and Windorah are currently closed due to flooding on the Diamantina River, while access remains possible from the north and west.
The iconic outback destination is set for an influx of travellers this weekend, as hundreds of keen runners descend on the town for the Simpson Desert Ultra, where some participants will run up to 100km across dunes over 24 hours.
Birdsville Police Officer in Charge Stephan Pursell says travellers should approach the town from the north via Boulia and Bedourie if possible, but measures are currently in place to get participants across the floodwaters on the Windorah side of town, while conditions permit.
“We're currently arranging for a passenger bus which has got clearance through the water, which can pick up people and their swags, tents and belongings.”
With flood levels only expected to rise in the coming days as a second peak heads down the Diamantina River, Simpson Desert Ultra organisers are encouraging participants to get in touch for further updates.
