We got our bike rack yesterday and have cut the stell to weld it onto the extended A Frame. We are a little concerned about the electrical wiring etc when we go to weld the steel on. Will it be OK to disconnect the battery whilst we do it??? Any thoughts anyone.

Definitely disconnect the battery when you do it as the battery negative is connected to the underframe.
Disconnect battery and make sure you don't have your tow vehicle hooked up on the tow bar
When welding you want to do things slowly to reduce the amount of heat being transferred to the A frame.
Keep a hose or fire extinguisher handy just in case.

Also remember there is wiring inside the drawbar so be careful not to melt it.
