Has anybody had any experience with a dual axle expanda(2100kgs) using a 2008 VE SS commodore and whether it worked or not. Th car is rated to 2100 kg but not sure whether it's worth the trouble.
Is the 2100kg of the van the loaded weight? or empty?
If it's the empty weight then "NO" you would be exceeding the legal tow weight of the vehicle by the time it's load, e.g water, gas, food, cloths and anythng else you need to put in there.
Even if it is the loaded weight you're right up there on the vehicles tow weight and need to be careful of the vehicle max ball weight.
I tend to agree with Jim and bushman, not an ideal tow vehicle but cruising yes.....used to have a couple of V8's myself A bit thirsty towing 2T and clearance with speed humps etc would be an issue.
Thanks for the response guys, its 2100kg loaded and 210 kg on the ball had it weighed at its first service with all our stuff in it.
The car has "18" inch wheels. It is right up there on weight that's why I am not sure whether to use it or not also I run WDH With my other vehicle would airbags make a difference in the commodore?i think I may have to upgrade it at some stage.
I have a Saraha but its through the company i work for so i guess im just wanting to make sure should something happen i can use my commodore as a back up so we can continue our holidays or look at upgrading the commodore to a more suitable vehicle in the future.
I think it would be a grouse tow car.....for a 16. But I have seen a lot worse tow a 17. Its funny, years ago heaps of vans were towed with V8 Commodores and Falcons, now not too common. I even remember stories of the back doors opening on old VB Commodores pulling heavy boats.
