Hi, Dumb newbie question.
My wife and I are considering buying the 14' ensuite expanda.
I was just wondering what type of vehicle other members who have a 14' use to tow their van.
I was just wondering if we would need to purchase a 4wd or we could get away with a Holden or Ford.
Thanks
Brian

It all depends on weight and which Holden and Ford you are considering.
There are plenty of people towing vans larger than the 14 with Falcons and Commodores.
Cheers

We have a 2010 14-44-3 OB (original toilet/shower model now discontinued) and we tow it with a 2006 3.0L Navara. We do like to get off the beaten track but no real off road work so this works for us. I'm sure a Commodore or Falcon could drag a 14' around on the tarmac with no problems.

By the way, welcome to the forum. :welcome:

:welcome: @BJK a few replies already that may have answered your question, but I guess it may also depend if you want to do a bit of offroad exploring on your travels.

Good luck with you decision and enjoy the forum

I've got a 14442, no ensuite. Tow with an XR6 falcon, easily within limits and enough power to do 100 of the freeway, although using stick to the 80-90 mark. Recently purchased an engel that sits in the car boot and when loaded with the van on makes the arse sag. Looking to put some airbags in for peace of mind

Hi BJK.
I have had a 14.44.3 and currently have a 14.44.5. I tow with a 2007 falcon and have never experienced any problems. Plenty of power for hills and sits on 90 to 100 for highway travel comfortably. The only mod I made was to fit airbags. This has not only raised the back slightly but has also given a much firmer ride (stops the "floating feeling"). Overall I am very happy with the falcon and if you decide to go that way you will not have any troubles towing.

Hi Cootay
I went for the Pedders airbags. There was little difference between the two so I took the easy way out. The local Pedder agency is closer for me to get to if there was an after sales problem. As it turned out the week after the installation I found that one side was leaking. It was fixed immediately and I have no trouble since. I have had them now for over three years.

I have a Commodore SV6 Sportswagon pulling a 16.49.1B which is a similar load to the 1444.5 and it tows nicely with the Hayman Reese WDH. You wouldn't be able to use any of the 3.0 litre Commodores though as they have a lower towing load limit.

hi mate

we have a 2009 14.44.2 currently tow with a 2009 Como wagon. I added a trans cooler as insurance. we use a WD bars and that definitely makes a difference in the drive.

when towing and trying to keep to the speed limits (and subject to wind conditions) we ave 18 - 20's L / 100km.

my next tow rig will be 4x4 but not sure which one yet! BUT overall I am extremely happy with my Como!

good luck and i hope u enjoy the forum as much as I have!!

Stan,
Thanks for your reply. That is good news as we didn't want to go to a 4wd just yet.
