Hi all.
Cleaning up the van and thought I'd test the Brakeaway brakes.
By pulling the pin on the draw bar, the brake lights come on but this time I thought I'd unhook everything and see if the van would hold on a small incline. It didn't hold.
The kit is the standard Jayco supplied fare. Charging lights and test lights all ok.
Now I haven't yet gone to the effort to jack up the van to see if there was resistance but has anyone experienced this?
Thoughts please. Van is still under warranty and the brakes work fine when hooked up to the car.
Cheers.

Hi,
We tested our breakaway system on our 5 year old Jayco Basestation by mistake and they locked up all 4 wheels, I had the cable too tight and went around the corner in the caravan park and the pin pulled out and I left four nice skid marks on the concrete, so I know mine defiantly work, but I have regularly checked the settings and have adjusted the brakes a couple of times.
Also check your small 12volt battery it has a testing lamp fitted there may not be enough power to put on the brakes but enough to light up the lights.
Hope this helps
Mark

You will need to jack up each wheel in sequence (with the brake away plug removed) and check that the brake magnet is connecting to the Drum. I have seen some where the arm which the magnet is on, has a slight angle and thereby it won't allow the face of the magnet to attach to the drum. Also Jayco don''t always insert the retainer which hold the magnet onto the arm.
BUT - if the van is under warranty take it back.
Regards
Glen

Whilst travelling along the Gibb River Road we were going up a small incline when all of a sudden the Pajero just ground to a halt and I couldn't accelerate at all. Jumped out and found the breakaway pin out of the plug. Something (rock, stick) must have flicked up and caught the cable, pulling it out.
I'd did slow us down very quickly I can tell you, very unexpectedly too!!

Haven't tested it since but I have replaced the long cable with one of those blue curly type ones, so it doesn't hang down now.
