Stonechips:

So, my rocktamer style mudflaps weren't as effective as hoped....i'll upgrade to a Stone Stomper or Towtector brush style mudflaps before the next outback trip.

Any recommendatiosn on how to fill larger chips and otherwise buff / smooth oput the little chips and repair the clear cout? Is it soemthing i can do or does it need to go to a auto repairer or a boat repairer or a varavan shop?

Awning:

I have a approx 1 foot long rip in the Carefree awning, along the barrel, where the rubber strip bed the awning into the barrel. Left the awning out when went out for a few hpours, breeze came up, turned into a howling gale; if i got back minutes later it would have gone completely!

I have pathched it with awning repair tape (just white gaffa tape really). That si a temprary repair. Seems to me i need to either get it repaired proerly (canvas patch sewed on) which means the awning nees to come off the van. If i'm doing that, may as well get a new awning (tiem to call the insurer i gues).

But, looking at it, it seems to me that the material the awanings are made from isn't as stong as decent canvas. I'm wondering whether anyone has had a decent canvas awning made (or knows of any suppliers) which can replace the Carefree awning but still work on the barrel? I imagine i can get a cheque form the insurer and pay the difference.

Fiberglass repairs and good plaster work are things I think there is an art to.
So to make the repair as invisible as possible, I think I would be taking it to a fiberglass specialist.

Can't help with the stone chips but caravans plus sell the awnings, here is an example: http://caravansplus.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=9378 , for a bit of DIY and you can pickup at QBN. I lodged an insurance claim for my last van and LLoyds did the work. generally happy with the result, but a light cover fell off on my trip home and they were unhelpful. Actually there is one bloke there who takes the cake for unhelpful...

Hi Brookes2622,

I think I know who you mean. I bought a hitch from there, and while it was the last one available, I did buy it at a reduce price. But then it came with a bolt missing, and no instructions. I did save myself $200 though. Anyway, there is certainly not a lot of choice in the Canberra area. Are you going to the Canberra Home and Leisure Show this weekend?

Cheers

Typical! I love those things but I didn't know it was on so I'm out trimming goat hooves and fixing some water issues then off down the coast for an overnighter. Enjoy it.

You can buy gel coat in white from a boat chandelier its not the eastiest stuff to use but with care a attention to detail you can patch them. Also the chandeliers sell a gel coat putty which is a bit more like Auto filler , I haven't used it myself. Your local Jayco dealer should be able to advise a gel cost repairer but they will be $500+ I'd imagine. What didn't work with the rock tamers? I ve herd a few reports now.
