-We get gas out of the bottle when the liquid boils/vapourizes at the top of the liquid level inside the tank.

-Appliance gas/bbq is what we get for our caravans is Propane. It boils or vapourizes at -42 deg C. So it can be really really cold and you still get gas out of your bottle.

-Auto gas is a mix of Propane and Butane. Butane vapourizes at 0 deg C. So in cold weather it struggles to vaporize. The mix changes throughout the year depending on the temperature. ie more propane in the mix in winter. Butane is a cheap gas hence why the price of auto gas is cheap.

The problem in the middle of winter is if you are using an older style appliance or something with a faulty safety device which does happen, then your appliance may be working, you go to sleep, the bottle gets cold, gas stops vapourizing so the appliance goes out. No problem until the sun comes up, bottle warms a few deg" and the gas begins to vapourize again. Room can fill with gas and desperse breathable air out of the room or until it finds an ignition source??? Both gasses are heavier than air also. Along those lines anyway.

Anyway, just pay extra and buy the proper gas.
