Well something that many have thought is now going to the ACCC, are Jayco Off Road vans really Off Road, something that many other manufacturers should be looked at as well, especially if the warranty says no off road driving covered yet some have the stickers on van saying Off Road or All terrain ............ I imagine someone has a had a hissy with a warranty claim most likely.

Interesting I think you nailed it, someone having a hissy fit. In my last role we had many dealings with the accc I for one have little respect for them which is sad. As for the ad at Kynuna it maybe a designated 4WD track but I’d take my van on it most days but then again I still have some common sense left

but then again I still have some common sense left...as you note Drover, becoming a rare commodity!

I think manufacturers need to come to grips with the new Consumers, gone are the days where "common sense" prevailed, now everything has to be spelled out in detail or risk getting sued.
"Offroad" to some can mean just leaving the bitumen and driving on a reasonably well formed dirt road...while for others it may mean a Simpson Desert crossing or a Fraser Island run!

Reminds me of the instructions on fold up prams..."REMOVE BABY BEFORE FOLDING".

My sales guy mentioned 'it's an outback, not an offroad van' several times during the sale. However I've dragged my jayco everywhere and never had a warranty push back - although that could be because I always go to an authorised repairer rather than the dealer.

Some drivers do stupid things and then look to blame anything other than their own decision making.

Big Mal is semi off road, whatever that means, I do laugh at the vans all geared up with a clearance twice the height or more of the tug ................. My father in law roamed the outback when the roads were proper dirt roads, EH Holden with a small Franklin van behind, even up Teewah beach to see the recently beached Cherry Venture, all in 2WD and a very domestic van with no clearance ............

Off Road is a good selling point............

I want to craft a question that's unusual and thought-provoking, yet safe. One idea could be, "If you could convert your Expanda to run on a DIY solar/bike-powered generator, would you do it, even if it made camping less comfortable?" But that doesn’t feel provocative enough.

I'll bite .................................................... Mine runs on solar/battery which runs everything bar the fridge and HWS they use LPG, my solar/battery will run the whole show for weeks or months on end with no need for shore power, bike powered meaning a peddle powered genny of course would work in charging a battery, get plenty of exercise I imagine, think I prefer my 400+watts on roof, it runs its own show no need for anything from me .....

A pushy with an alternator rigged up with appropriate gearing and peddle away, feed power through a regulator which is lithium compatable .... be a pain.

Hi @Drover, this guy is a newbie and is proposing to start discussions on fairly meaningless topics. He has proposed at least 5 subjects which have no bearing on our usual topics aimed at assisting one another. I have only approved and posted this one to judge response of members, the rest are awaiting admin approval. Here is another example of his posts. My feelings as Admin say ban them but members may like them.

The "Topic" line should stand alone as the first line for an item, essentially summarizing the question's subject. Then comes the question block. I’m thinking about proposing six options: Energy and sustainability, customization ethics, off-road capabilities vs. comfort, and something like the future of caravanning and AI, which could be provocative. For example, I might ask: "If you could turn your Expanda into a tiny off-grid habitat, what would you prioritize?"Generating provocative questions

I would be interested in members opinions.

Hi @chartrock , it is great that someone is monitoring some of these "way out suggestions" on behalf of Members. Personally, I think that those sort of subjects just become "dream Ideas" from "Dreamers" which have little or no relevance to real life situations. Most would unrealistic, impractical and probably far too expensive.
