You went the right way, it's either Cunninghams or the Toowoomba Range, well there are other back roads of course all with bigger hills.

cool @Drover yes was told not to go via Toowoomba by friends..So thought i picked the wrong way out of Warwick.. Beaudesert way looked hilly as well.

Toowoomba is no drama road is good, Beaudesert, Canungra to Gold Coast is hilly but nice scenic drive you just wouldn't see much as your looking at the next corner hoping something big or fast isn't coming.
A good way home is go to Warwick, Inglewood, Warialda down thru Bingara to Gunnedah, Coolah then a multitude of ways off the big highways, shear joy driving at a decent pace and surprisingly, fuel cheaper most times with great places to stop.

PS: Locals go on about the TWB Range but it's just a big hill which is tiny compared to some down south.
