Would like to share a recent experience with a leaking roof.

We took delivery of our 17.56.1 in August 2012, and we had two 90kw solar panel fitted at the factory. The panels were fitted opposite ends and corners of the roof to each other. When not in use the van is stored with a cover and on a slop, so water easily runs off the roof. Also we have been lucky that whilst using the van as it hasn’t rained that much. However had noticed a small mark on the inside of the roof and it was getting softer to touch as the months / years rolled by. Finally we were away early Dec 14 when it absolutely bucketed with rain for a few days and it actually started leaking from the roof onto the main dinette table. So got up onto the roof and removed the front solar panel and noticed that sikaflex had only been used on three of the four brackets. When removing the bracket that didn’t have sikaflex the screws had rusted all the way through as well as part of the roof.

Would encourage all those who have solar panels affix to the roof, to double check that no water is getting into the roof cavity and that the brackets are sealed adequately. It took some time (2+ years) for any sign of a water leak to appear for us and after that the damage was already done, in that, the front section of the roof now needs replacing.

I must admit we are extremely happy with the service from both the dealer we purchased the van through and Jayco, as we work with them to get this issue fixed.
