well just got home after 5 nights at the park.

Great set up with unpowered grass sites, standard concrete sites, ensuites and a range of cabins. There are 2 amenities blocks, and camp kitchen.

The park has a big and small pool, jumping pillow, kids playground, tennis and volleyball court so pretty much everything to suit your needs. Kids behave as they do when parents kick back too much so don't blame them and judge a park by their behaviour.

It's 600m to the local RSL which has a great Chinese restaurant, as well as a courtesy bus. Karuah is a sleep little place now that the freeway bypasses it, but still has all the essentials you might need like IGA, baker, butcher, newsagent, petrol station, doctor etc. you can drive into Medowi which is about 15min away to woollies, Coles or nearest hardware store (we needed a connector to join our hoses as Tap on our site was just out of reach).

The weather wasn't the greatest so we spent a fair bit of time going into all the places in port Stephens and checked out most of the other c/parks for future stays.

Jimmys Beach at Hawks Nest ticks all of your boxes @Bluey. Large grassy sites, good amenities, pet friendly (out of school holidays), short stroll to the surf beach in one direction or to the bay in the other.

Karuah is a fair hike to the beach. In Forster try the main caravan park near the breakwall. Minutes from the beach and a ramp to the river. Down the river or road to the lake. Forster is a fantastic spot IMO. But Iam a little biased ha ha .

Hey mate we stayed there last year and I had a terrible time. Left early and got a refund. The park managers were lovely and tried hard and begged us to write and complain so action could be taken? Amenities not cleaned or kept up with paper etc , worst feral children I'd seen at a park TBH. Sounds like it's picked up good to hear? The Chinese was inundated and couldn't cope the night we went either but Your spot on great feed when it turned up. we actually free camp at the boat ramp /park opposite the RSL now if heading north , great quiet spot by the river. Usually pull up just under the no camping sign 8-)

Try the 2 parks close together near the beach at North Haven @Bluey . We stay at the Jacaranda Park, great little family run park with a pool etc, really nice staff. Close to beach, inlet/lake area across the road, good cycling and walking distance to shops/cafes/bowlo etc. Awesome fish and chips/cafe 100m down from park.

We passed through Karuah on our way back from crissy hols to get some supplies from the IGA. Got a weird feeling about that place.... We made the big mistake of staying at the Australian motorhomes caravan park on the highway, as we needed somewhere quick and easy to stop for the night half way back to home as kids cant quite make the travel distance yet. Got an even weirder feeling about that place and def wont be back again. Would rather stay in belangalo forest :)

I've always wondered about that park on the highway. It's in the middle of nowhere, can't see what it's got going for it, but always seems to have plenty of vans and motorhomes there.

Can't think of anywhere worse myself.

We stayed at weroona at manning point. That was nice. The road to manning point would have to be (or was 4 yrs ago) the most pot holes road I'd ever been on! There was also a long single lane bridge to navigate.
