Anywhere in the great outdoors
Hi we are heading of to Echuca/Moama in the September school holidays and am wondering if anyone has any idea's on good free camping spots please?
We will have roughly 2 weeks and are heading up from The Great Ocean road and am in no hurry if there are any good spots along the way to see?

Cheers

Plenty of good camping spots out Torumbarry - head down Headworks Road just past the roadhouse and pub on the Murray Valley Highway.
Christies Beach is also good - it is out the east of Echuca - head down Bangerang Rd and turn left into the bush around Simmie Rd.
Another good spot is Wills Bend, head west out of Echuca down the Murray Valley Highway, turn right into O'Dwyers Rd into the bush and follow the signs - can get a bit busy there.
Also supposed to be good camping a the old Elmore Field Days site - on the Campaspe River.

Well we made it to Christies beach and just wanted to thank everyone for suggesting it.
It did take a bit to find the exact spot but we ended up with a gorgeous spot for 2 weeks. We had an amazing time and beautiful weather.
Would recommend this spot to anyone going that way.
Thanks again.

If you're ever back that way - I love the old Elmore Field Day Site on the Campaspe River!!! The only downside is the fish don't seem to bite well there compared to the Carp in the Murray River... We stopped there last Wed - Fri, and had a great time. (Camped there a number of times now). Planning on heading back to Echuca in the near future, so will check out the Christies beach site. Is there plenty of room / river access? Cheers, Glenn

Yep Shadow75 there are alot of spots, just as you come in off the road there are alot of camp spots high up on the edge of the Murray and if you go over the cattle grid and turn right to Christies there are tracks off to the left every so often to find your own spot. We went right to the end of that track and turn right so we wereout of the wind, just perfect and didn't have anyone on our doorstep, closest van 70-100mtrs away.
Beautiful spot.
Triton I bet you had a great spot too s there are so many up there and the weather was perfedt wasn't it. Had to come home to cold and rain :(
