Found a right sized, and priced ($200)Ally toolbox at one of my trade supplies stores a month or so ago and finally found the time to get around to (Start) fitting it.
The spare wheel was always going to be a relocate job but have decided to source a winder and fit it up under the back of the van as close to axle as I can, instead of building some type of elaborate spare wheel holder, as I think a winder and couple of pieces of steel between the chassis will weigh a lot less.
So, plan of attack, move the gas bottles back a bit, move the jockey wheel forward a bit and fix the Tool box in the middle.

Took off the Gas bottles & Brackets sat the tool box in place and marked out where everything would fit

Cut off the Bottle brackets, moved them back a couple of inches and welded them back on, don't forget to disconnect the Battery(s)(Both Leads) in the Van

Coat of Zic rich gal paint then duragal silver to try and match in

All fitted up....sort of, NExt step down to Autopro in the Morning to see if they have a Jockey wheel mount and then try and find a spare wheel winder, I have phoned the trailer parts supplier and he says they dont have them and the best place is to try a 4WD wreckers, does anyone know where I might be able to buy one

I plan to ask the guy who installed my gas system for one as they often take the spare wheel and wind down mechanism out to fit a circular gas tank in that spot. The spare is mounted elsewhere so the wind down is discarded.

Thanks everyone, did another scour of the Internet this morning and spare wheel winches (Thanks BG i know their proper name now) seem to be a difficult item to find new, I can buy 300 of them from China or Turkey but would need an import licence, found a couple on Fleabay but they are ones with a wire and I would really like one with a chain, great idea Chartrock I might check with the guys at ARB because there is a good chance they may remove them when fitting long range tanks (we dont have a LPG guy on town here) . Will keep you informed
So Autopro had a Jockey wheel clamp thats all fitted up and the Toolbox is mounted and filled with hoses, wheel chocks, jack, and the Floor Matting.

Next weekend's project is to fit the Solar Panel and accessories which hopefully should arrive this week then that'll do I think ..........well at least until I find another Gadget!

Great job Capt. I asked some time ago why nobody was considering an under the floor spare as opposed to a carrier, good to see somebody doing it. I organized a landcruiser whinch as they seem to bolt up well but have a special key to use them. On the 16 footer there is the added benefit of the cross bars I have added to hold the winch between floor rafters also strengthen the floor and take that flexing out when you step on the floor near the bed.

Look forward to more posts, what are you using for a brace?

Cheers Jim It just seemed like a better Idea less weight sticking out back, I was thinking the same about the floor too, I have noticed it can be a bit bouncy so a bit of extra bracing couldnt hurt . As for the brace (Winder) I think I will modify the winder that came with stabiliser legs (if the Jack one doesn't fit) as I use a cordless drill to wind up and down the legs, much quicker, setup doesn't eat into my drinking time that way! haha
Cheers Grant
