Just wondering if anyone tows with the standard 4.0L six anymore. I have a 2010 FG XR6 and been towing a Hawk Outback with no issues. I needed to fit a WDH even though the rear height only dropped approx 2cm but with the xr6 being as low as they are I did notice when going over speed humps (or as they say in NZ, judder bars).
Anyway be interested to know how others go with economy as I am upgrading to a new 16.49-4 this weekend that came off the Jayco line yesterday afternoon. My weight goes up approx 200-300kg to approx 1500kg so I have no issues there as I am rated to 2300kg. Currently depending how I drive I estimate my worst economy around 14-15L per 100kg towing the Hawk OB which is about 1200kg.

Anyway.... greetings to all as this my first post......and great to find a site like this also.

Cool...when you say gas are you talking lpg? what sort of economy do you get per 100km.....my last had a typo and meant to say i was estimating 14-15L per 100km.

Yep LPG :alien: With fuel economy l normaly get about 450klms per tank of gas without towing ( which the tank is 80lts hold about 65lts ) when l last towed the my van l got about 350klms ( bone dry ) this is sitting on 95-100 on the speedo and not pushing it hard up the hills. :)

I towed my 17 55 5 sh disco with my dunnydore, the van has maz wieght of 2020, 2.1t tow limit, 15l/100 on express way at 90 km/hr 18 on non express way, got a bit hot going up hill, so I would def put biggest trans cooler and increase anything to do with cooling. I used to tow a hawk (tourer) no probs ever with that. I wont be doing any of this as I am just about to by a new (to me) tug. I dont think my dunnydore would be up to scratch long term, probally a big ask getting a 2003 car with 210 000 on the clock to start towing at capacity in its twightlight years.
