17' Series Electric brake problem (I think)

Now that we finally have the van at home I thought I would take a look underneath as we have a trip coming up in September. I found quite a few jubilee hose clamps broken which I will have to replace. That was not too much of a concern. My concern was the wires coming from the brakes that were no longer attached, I think it should be easily fixed but can anyone tell me if these wires are the electric brakes or part of the brake away system? If it is the brakes then it is definitely more of a problem and I would advise people check these prior to every trip

Looks like your brakes to me. I now always check after finding similar thing - and now also visually check suspension components, etc. from time to time after finding bolt missing from spring set when getting axles underslung.
Underbody protection of pipes, wiring, tanks and floor is a worthwhile and essential mod.

Good pick up and thanks for posting. I'm not sure either as to whether its the break away or the main brakes but I will be checking mine now.

Yes, I had mine fixed as part of the re-call. Lube mobile came out and re-did the connections PROPERLY. I find brakes to be indispensable when travelling on a free way so they need to work!
I'm sure we all do it, but I always use the controller to test the van brakes when first heading off.

G'day
It's definitely the wires off your magnet in your main electric brakes
The breakaway system is just a battery system that supplies power to your main brakes via the same wires should the cable on the drawbar be pulled.
At the moment you have no brakes or breakaway on that particular wheel.

And dont plug the elec. connectors back in, strip wires and solder. You will get poor connections using wire terminals which will result in poor or no brakes. Solder the wires together and heat shrink over joins.

Agreed Moto Mech.
Is it still under warranty?
Even if it isn't I would definitely put in a claim (with the pictures). That way, you will be well taken care of if there is (God forbid) any problems in the future.

If this was the subject of a recall as icetechaus stated, it won't matter if under warranty or not. Recalls can be ,are 10 yrs after the fact and they MUST fulfill the fix.
dont be doing anything yourself till you check it out.

On that, a quick google search found this.

Thanks everyone we are not on the recall list, but I will certainly be pushing it with the service centre tomorrow. We are waiting for a new front lid for the second time so they can do both when it goes in.

I see heaps and heaps of trailers/horse floats come into work that have electric brakes that dont work on. By going through the wiring and cutting out dodgy joins and soldering them they leave with 100% working brakes.
I doubt very much many(if any) vans come from the factory with soldered wiring so even if Jayco fix the wiring, it wont be soldered so wont be 100%.

Mine was a 2012 build and they used bullet type connectors, same problem though.....they pulled out!

Jayco will investigate when I take it in for the front lid replacing so I will see what they come up with, I will ask them to solder them together, We shall see
