My next mod was where I started this thread and that was to get a toolbox custom made so I can fit all those items that just belong in a toolbox and not inside the van. Those things that your wife says can these go somewhere else. Well as you can see with my first few posts i chopped and changed with different options mostly to do with where the opening would be either top or front or possibly even on the side with a combination of front or top opening. In the end i went with the original plan and that was to get a top opening toolbox.

I used the design from @rjstokes and cut out some 9mm marine ply to act as a base to provide not only some strength to the outer edges of the box but also provide a buffer between the steel box and a frame.

Once the box was ready I had the supplier install the box with my marine ply onto the A frame while i waited:

My next task was to install the gas bottles. So i bought some holders from supercheap who had a 25% off sale on the weekend i was doing the mod which was great timing. These were the holders I bought:

I had the grind off the base as i only wanted the sides to attach to the tool box and Im pretty happy with the end result. I found that out of the 3 9KG gas bottles i had 2 (that were the same brand) fitted nicely and the other was a tight fit. Ill need to ensure that if I use swap and go i get the same style and brand so as to ensure a nice fit:

Now I just need to replace the old copper gas tubing with some braided hose and install a twin outlet with the existing regulator. That is my next job.

With all these mods complete (minus the new gas hose and twin outlet. I just used the existing single outlet for now) we headed off to our first extended trip for a week down at Yamba NSW. We has some great weather and a wonderful time visiting the local rock pools and surf and enjoying the facilities at the saltwater Big4 campground we stayed at. Here are a couple pics of the trip:

@nihonjin,

Just read through your thread, some great work and good reading. The tool box looks great by the way.

Keep up the thread and any more mods you do along the way. I always love looking at pictures of the work people do, always on the scout for some ideas!!!!!

Great set up with your van!
We have been thinking about checking out saltwater at Yamba, we go to the blue dolphin every coupla years which is fantastic but the more 'relaxed ' look of saltwater down by the river appeals.

I like the look of the Verandah bit................... curious...............

I was thinking at first it wasn't worth the effort in setting up the annex and that we should just sell it but my wife convinced me we should and i was very pleasantly surprised with how much room it gave but more than that how it protected us from the wind and the rain we received. It also gives to the right side a fully protected room that could be used for sleeping or in our case we used it as another storage room to keep items we wanted out of the van but still protected.
