We picked up our new 17-56-2 in Septfrom brisbane and have only done about 900klm in it. We recently took a trip to Boyd's Bay at Tweed Heads. Upon leaving Boyds Bay we heard what sounded like a grinding sound comming from the wheel bearings or brakes. We took our van to Jayco at Tweed Heads to be told they were too busy to look at the van and feel the hubs of the van. If there not hot drive the van to Brisbane (As we live near Brissy). We got as far as Coomera when heard the grinding sound continue. I took the right hand front wheel off to find bits and peices of the brake linning falling onto the road. The linngs had come away from the shoe and the grinding sound was the very small peices of brake linning. A quick phone call to Brisbane and the brakes were repaired the next day. Sorry for the long story but check your brake linnings.

Must be a bit of a coincedence, but yesterday i spent a couple of hours (and $$$) at a mechanics in Childers while driving back to Townsville. As we pulled in to a servo i could hear a grinding/high pitch squeek coming from the right hand side of our 2 week old van, I felt the hubs and the front right wheel was getting pretty warm. I assumed we had a dodgy bearing and managed to find a mechanic who could check it out for us, but everything was ok with the bearings but the rear pad on the rhs was well worn, no probs with the front pad. He said everything was ok with the brakes and bearings and we were right to go but i still have the noise, and can't figure it out. I'm going to organise to get it in to Jayco to see what they can come up with. Any ideas??

I think they only removed the front wheel because it was the one heating up and making noise. They jacked up the right hand side and checked the rear wheel for any play in the bearings and that it was spinning ok. I'm hoping there's an easy fix.

The bearing hub was warmer than normal but I think it was transferred from the drum, which had all the heat. My guess is a brake pad was rubbing slightly on the drum which has caused the whole lot to warm up, that said I don't know enough to be considered dangerous. :frown:

Sorry for the late reply I've been away

I would be checking if your brake aduster has wound itself up Scott, thats where the problem could be?

No worries - The mechanic in Childers checked out the brakes and said they were ok. I've got the van booked in with Jayco for the 1st of Feb. Hopefully they'll have more luck figuring it out, i'll let you know what they come up with.

Sorry I missed your call yesterday Moto :phone:
When you get your brake drum off the adjuster is under the magnet, but check the adjustment before removing the drum 1st to see where the adjustment is at

Here is one I prepared earlier :D

I spoke to Jayco at twwed heads about my brakes. They weren't to keen on helping me fix my problem.

I've found that agents rather than dealers are more willing to help. At the moment my van is with East Coast Refinishers at Ashmore and they have been extremely helpful. I was sent to them for the cracks in my roof which they could not do before we went away. When we came back we had a list of other problems which they just took on board, contacted Jayco and got the approval to fix everything. I also asked about another window which the dealer had told could be done with only a small window and would cost up to $1000. These guys have fitted a reasonable size widow for just over $600.

I know where I'll be going in future. :hail: They are about 50Km closer as well.

Not sure if I have an emerging brake problem, sio thought best to raise and see what everyone thinks. Just back from our first major run to Narooma, round trip about 1,400 kms. Van started off good, but as we progressed it seems that when we brake, van does nothing to begin with and then really kicks in, seems balance is all out. I played around with controller but nothing really changed.

I swapped car over to dad's Kia and tried to pull the van and brake with his unit, same thing happened so concluding it is something not right with the van, not the car. My concern is that if something is wrong, will it not be easy for the dealer to pick up and rectify. 1st service is due mid-Feb has anyone had something similar or know what might be wrong ?

I found the same thing towards the end of our last trip. However, our is also due for its first 1000k service, so they might still be bedding in and needing adjustment anyway. I also think one side is activating with less pedal pressure than the other side. This would mean one side is starting to brake normally, but feels like not much is happening since it isn't equal, until the the second side starts too bite, at which time the first is on too much and it locks up. (if that makes sense...)

Cheers Straydingo, will stick it on the list for the service and see what the dealer says. We also had assessor out today for the Xmas day hail damage, seems they were pretty good and have basically said get Jayco to quote for damage repair bill during service. Happy about that as cannot see any damage to roof, but can see indentations and want Jayco to decide. Holes in the awning a no-brainer.

Maybe a good post is "First service how long is your list ?". We had a fellow panda owner come round and inspect the van whilst away, they said their list went on forever, we thought jeez, not much wrong going on with us ! Quality control or picky owners ?

Don't beat yourself up to much Klugerclan.. We left our van at Jayco for 5 days with a big list of things that needed to be fixed. I don't think the quality control checkers do a good job at the factory. After I noticed our brakes I saw our nuts for the axle weren't even done up tight. I tightened them up another 3 whole turn on each bolt.

Not sure what other people think about the quality finish..

I've only got 4 or 5 things, all very minor. In fact, after reading everyone's posts I was actively searching for more, thinking there must be more.....
