OK, so we were going to jump in the van and head to Werribee South just for the night but decided that we'd play it safe with weather forecast not exactly favourable for tomorrow.
Instead we decided to just pack the truck up and head out to Camp Firth near Trentham to check out it as a possible venue, have a few hot dogs, drop a line, light a fire, toast some marshmellows and listen to the Hawks finish off the Demons.
It's a pretty nice little corner of the world, easily accessible by 2WD and a caravan if you were taking one. There's a part of the camp in the "infield" which is bollarded off for tents, but someone previously had managed to get in there and had tore it up a bit. No doubt there was some serious snow there last week as it is around the 700m above sea level mark.
The "lake" was pretty brown and whilst we dropped the rods in for the kids, there was never ever a chance of anything ever biting the line. Still, the kids love it. Quite a few fire pits around and it didn't look like it was minded if you made you own any how. Toilets were pretty good and clean. Look pretty new, and for long drops, not too stinky.
There were quite a few spots to park a van, and there was an old model eagle and Jayco Campervan out there this arvo. The only thing on this is that it has quite the slope. You'd certainly need a good set of levelling ramps/blocks of wood.
Overall it's a good spot, and in winter would be a nice winter get away. If you're into your bushwalking and or biking even better. Would be better with a better lake, but we may try it with the van due to it only being 45min from home.
Just a word of caution, this is prime bushfire country... play it smart if Summer.
