Looks good @Ss--ss ! Is the LED strip 'cool white' or 'warm white'?
From your photo it looks as if it matches the existing awning light. I'm a bit pedantic and would like the lights to match.

With my install I am going to put it on the awning barrel and power it by installing an external 12v plug near the awning arm on the external wall and just run the cable out to it on the support arm.

Hello BigSkiddy, The ones I got were 5050 Warm LEDs , was about $15 for 5Metres . I thought they would be a bit yellower but actually they are a great match & appear cool whitish if that makes sense .. I think its due to the fiberglass being bright white & the reflection..

Did my strip lights this morning, lot easier than I thought it was going to be
Took tips from everyone's installs, used the separate 3M tape under lights for better adhesion and the remote control box
for on and off.
Decided to stick mine on the van wall instead of awning mainly for light to the built in Bbq I didn't want a shadow from
standing between the Bbq and the awning barrel and 2 if we don't put the awning out we can still have lights
once again thanks to the forum for a wealth of good advice
Cheers

Bringing this thread to the top of the pile.................................Been looking at a lot of awning LED's in my travels and I have come to the conclusion that the one's mounted on the awning barrel are going to fail or give trouble far earlier than the units mounted on the body like @Ss-ss, @Seanm5253 and myself..............it seems that on the awning barrel heat, moisture and the odd being On when rolled up is causing problems, so if you have an option I would go mounting on the body, that way you have light when the awning is rolled up and less faults.
My nephew has had about 3 sections fail on his and it's only 3 months old and have same thing from others I've talked to around the traps.
Mine has been on for over 12 mths, lots of travelling and only used the sticky that they came with, Ebay $10 for 5 mts so must be top quality, still sticking like the proverbial but surface was well cleaned prior to sticking and ends capped with silastic.

Wow its been almost three years since I did this mod to the van. I can confirm that every thing is still working like new, the $3 remote still has the original battery, the auto body tape is still sticking and the led strip lights are all working perfect.
The mods I did to the cupboards and pantry all good as well.

@Drover
I have had our strip lighting on the Van for about 2 years now Drover, also have the barrel and to be honest I don't even use the barrel these days.
The LED strip on the van I find give off a better light and most of all you can turn the LED strip light on the van even when the awnings closed for a quick camp or those late night trips into the van.

I with you with the LED strip on the van is a better choice for use too.
