So I got up nice and early this morning and headed down to the caulfield caravan show. Was lined up at 9:15, gates opened at 9:30.
Having pretty much made up my mind on the 17.56-2 I headed straight to Jayco, but had a quick look at the new 20.63. Pretty impressive, but a little more than what I wanted to spend.
Anyway checked out the display 17.56-2 OB, to make sure my pre prepared list of extras covered everything. The show special was upgraded fridge (150lt), 90watt solar and wind up antenna. All of which were on my list!
I found the Salesman From Prestige Jayco that I had previously spoken to and started to crunch the deal.
All I can say is wow! It was worth coming to the show.
I've signed on the dotted line for the 17.56-2 OB with the following;
Aventa roof mount A/C (now standard)
Wind out awning (now standard)
150lt fridge ( show special)
90 watt solar with 100amp battery kit (show special)
Wind up antenna (show special)
Extended draw bar
External shower
Privacy screens
TV bracket
Extra power points and 12v points

Not sure if its the done thing on here to list prices so please let me know, but happy to say I'm more than pleased with the deal.
Needless to say I'm one happy camper!

Dont list the price, be happy with your deal. Well done on your purchase and that 20 Expanda was awesome. I went and checked it about 6 times, but we checked the starcraft 7 times. I cannot believe how many jaycos were there. We spent 3 hours just checking Jayco's.

Robert, has yours gone down the line yet? Or have you gone past the point of no return.

Congrats and well done! Now for the what seems like an endless wait until pickup.
If you are happy with what you paid then that's all that really matters.
We are heading to the show on Monday.

Soaring,

Great choice of model and extras.

Now the wait!

The great thing is until you sign the final order confirmation just before you van goes down the production line, you can still add things to your already great list of options.

Happy days ahead....

Thanks guys,
I asked for August delivery. Gives me a little more time to save the $$, plus I won't really get an opportunity to head out until the Sept school holidays. then a bit of time before chirssy where I can do some mods. (On that I have an idea I'll post separately.)
Its going to be a painful wait though!

Im actually thinking about going back to the show today/tomorrow, becuase yesterday I had the wife and kids with me, I pretty much did the deal then headed home. It was getting hot and the kids were starting to turn feral. Now the van is on order, I want to check out all the gear I will need. Also, in all the exitement I forgot one of the most important things....Photos!
Yet to purchase mirrors, brake controlle,r leveling ramps, hoses, leads etc. Thats half the fun right?

Congrats soaring on the new purchase and if you reckon you have got a great deal it just makes it the more sweeter. The 17.56-2 is a great layout and ticked all the boxes for us (family of 5). Now like you it is just a matter of playing the waiting game for delivery.

Sounds like you've had a great experience so far! It's even better when you feel like you got a good deal. Have you considered a drop down external table?

I went back to the show today to take some photos, and just generally have a play. I had a look at the drop down tables, but I'm not sure they work too well with the outback. To be a useful height, it would have to be mounted to the check plate rather than the fibreglass, as the lowest edge of the van wall is just over 700mm off the ground(giving a table height of about 750mm, and the top of the Checkplate is about 1100mm off the ground, which would make the table height 1150ish. (Unless the table straddled the join betweent he checkplate and the white fibregalss wall. Not sure if this is done??).
Apart from being white and standing out like dogs b***s on the black checkplate. There is fairly limited realestate between wheelarch opening and the rear awning pole, and its a long way from the power point.
I prefer to set up a Bunnings tressle table anong the side of the van, two seconds to set up, but heaps more space.

I had never thought about table height on an OB before. I do love the covenience of the table, but I see your point.

Nice van.

True, it's too high to sit at, but it's a great high table to put a tv on, or just store stuff off the floor in the annex. Also keeps things out of kids reach. I set up the BBQ next to mine and use it to hold my drink!

When I bought my van late last year the brake control and install was included from Jayco
so I would check first before buying one. They also organised for the 12pin plug to be wired in as well.
Again I would check with them as I was not advised on the day that these were included.

Really? I've never heard this before.
Are you talking about the brake controller that is inside the cabin of your car (ie prodigy), or the brake breakaway cable setup?

G'day Soaring,

Yes both units. I thinko_O (but somebody could correct me)that the break away unit is compolsury on new vans over a certain weight.
The brake unit in the car (eg - prodigy) was included as well. When i spoke to the auto elec to get the controller fitted i also asked about having the 12 pin plug wired in as well. He called Jayco where i bought the van through and they confirmed that they (prodigy and 12pin plug) were included:D in the purchase price of the van.
