85 cm satellite dish full package ? Which one ?

G'day fellas, Asking you guys about a Sat fitout I am looking into for my expanda.
As per usual Jayco's promissed the world in my purchase from questions asked prior to handover. But failed to deliver. Ah well not to worry.

Anyway , I am wanting to buy a portable Sat Dish system for me van. I have spoken to Itecworld, got nothing but rudeness & a fella saying you have to run the cable thru the door way or window to the setbox. :-(( Well sorry that dont work for me , its seems like a half baked job.
I am wanting a satellite setup that has a wall mount outside the van which plugs into from the dish & inside the van it plugs direct to the setbox.
I have typed alot of things into google but get the same replies.
Can anyway recommend a top setup that is value for money. My issue is I want to purchase the whole kit & kabooble but theres quite a few out there that vary a great deal in price.
Some info or direction would be great. I am remote in Cape York & dont get any tv except for ABC which is crystal clear.

Hi Doggy,

I bought ours through SatPlus 7 years ago (need to up date to VAST) and they are fantastic with there customer service, I fitted an external inlet plug on the outside wall of the van and run the coax up to the unit that lives on top of the cupboard, the set top is always wired up so only need to connect the dish and align.

We have the VAST system with the 85cm dish. We no longer use the Wineguard. We bought it off Solar N Sat. They have outlets in Gin Gin and Hervey Bay.

it doesn't include the through the wall connectors, but there have been a couple of ideas for that previously in this thread.

Thanks lads for the feedback along with pics.
I like the setup ItecWorld offer as its compact & fits into a cover bag. However as what others offer on the market with up to date satellite finders etc it seems a bit outdated. Also they say to just feed the cable from the sat thru the doorway or window. I find that a bit Bushmechanic style to be honest.
Could I possibly purchase a wall plug from another outlet & plug the cable into direct to it ? Itecworld say it has to go direct to the Decoder.
The 85cm dish has been recommended by a few suppliers as the only dish that will be guarenteed 100 % all over Oz for reception.

Whats your opinions of this theory as there are smaller dishes on the market that I also like so as you can see my decision is somewhat clouded.

Living in Cooktown NTH QLD mate & loving it. Get the oppurtunity to head up the Cape each weekend ( when im not working) fishing,hunting, exploring etc etc.
Loving the Expanda also. Have a note book of Mods im wanting to do over the coming year just trying to work them all in together so they r user friendly.

Hi Doggy the Itech world setup is quite simple I bought it because of the fold up Dish/stand assembly (and the bag) I had an older dish and separate stand which was just one of those 1 more thing to set up items I dont have any trouble finding where the satellite is probably because I have been doing it a few years now but I do have an app on the iPhone called Satellite locator that tells where to aim the dish. The cables are available at most electronic stores I think our local mitre 10 even has them I bought some ends a crimping tool and a length of cable and just made my own to the right size I wanted. Cheers mate. I am thinking that because my van has an extra antenna external plug in point I could possibly get an adaptor short cable to connect the sat F type connection to the normal anntenna connection into my van.
Correct me if this cannot be done but it would save me having to drill a hole for a wall plug .

Hi Sean,

Aiming the dish is not too hard.

When I've had problems, it is usually because there is an obstruction, ie Tree, Bushes, Buildings etc.

I use an App on my iPhone called "SatFinder", which uses the camera on your phone to super-impose the location of the satellite in the sky, as you hold your phone up to the sky. This tells you which direction to point the dish, and also if there is going to be anything in the way.

Then you need to use a meter inline to fine tune the aiming of the dish. The advantage of the second meter is that it only registers a signal when you are at the correct satellite, the disadvantage is that there is a bit of a lag from when you alter the dish until the meter changes.

The first meter will register the signal of any satellite, but it adjusts instanaeously as you move the dish.

It all come down to practice. Sometimes I have been able to lock in the signal in just a couple of minutes, other times it seems to take ages, but usually because I have an obstruction in that location.

Caravan parks can be the worst for getting the dish aligned, sometimes there is just nowhere on your site where you can get a clear view of the correct poart of the sky.

i have a portable sat dish and encoder etc which i purchased from satplus about 6 years ago. still works perfectly and we use it every time we go away. john from satplus was a great help in the early stages (even over the phone) when i needed it but last time i went i set the dish in under 20 secs. it is one task that gets easier with experience.
i still have the old card and box at this stage but will need to upgrade to "vast" in the future.
