Recently purchased a 18.57-5 Expanda. Only done a few local trips around SA so far but the handbrake and I are loving it. A bit of a step up from our 1986 Jayco Swan! The only thing neither of us like is the concertina door to the ensuite. It is a bugger of a thing to open and close and I would like to replace it with some other sort of door. Has anybody modified theirs or can suggest a replacement type of door that is not toooo difficult to fit DIY?

Hi @MikeC and welcome to the forum

We have a 20.63.1 and it had 2 concertinas, one to the rear bunk end and one to the bathroom. It also had a glass trifold shower screen. We ditched all 3 saving 35kg in weight and replaced them with std curtains and shower curtain respectively. They provide the same barrier function very well without the weight, and are a lot more forgiving it you bump them needing a few extra inches of space.

Thanks Crusty. Had not considered curtains but is certainly an option. I will discuss with the boss and see what she says. I appreciate the pics as well. It will make it easier to explain what you did.
Cheers

Hi Crusty181.

How did you remove the concertina door from the en suite? I wish to do the same thing but I don't want to break anything as I might want to put it back in for when we sell our van

That was 5 years ago, i think i had to lever the door from one of the side tracks. Wedge the door up so its supported and then unscrew the slide track on the ceiling to remove it and the door all as one piece. I removed the side tracks as well. It can all go back in no problems. I then mounted curtains on a std 20mm curtain rod. The rod ends are screwed where the side tracks were so there will be no evidence should the door ever go back in
