Hi all, new to site. Have just put a deposit on a 17.56.2 outback and would like to know if anyone has upgraded their suspension?. We've only put down the deposit on Friday ( 24/1/20) so I should be able to order it with an higher ATM, well hoping so anyway. Just be nice to know if someone has done it and which brand of coils and shocks they used, also if it'll be better with after market or factory upgrade. We live on a cattle station in the nth west of Qld and our road is bad at the best of times, the wife and boys will be using it a lot for school of the air weeks ( sports for bush kids and the likes) . I need to take the ATM from 2456kg to around 2800kg. Cheers.

Any change to the ATM as such would have to have been approved and in writing before they start a build, I would make sure of that before anything especially putting any money down, everything promised in writing don't take a dealers word for it, they use Politicians Promises, I'm not sure if they could or would do that sort of increase but sometimes they can surprise.

Thanks for that. Yes I'm getting onto the dealer now.

Thanks Bluey I'll ask around townsville when we go to pick up the van, for now I've got in writing that they'll take me to 2,600kg ATM which will do for now. I would like 2800 - 2900 kg before we use it for holidays though. A family of 5 = weight, we ran out of room in the Kimberly kamper.

NW Qld to Vic is a long way to drag a van for a suspension rebadge.

Looking at the figures a tare of 2140 and you want an ATM of 2800kgs, be interesting to see if they would or could actually...... they might go 600kgs over tare............. If they won't do it I would look elsewhere as trying the engineer path could be a costly effort for little gain especially after it has a plate on it...

Sunbury VIC.
Depending on the axle group rating the factory will normally, for a fee, upgrade the payload to 600kg.
The thing to do is to get any extra stuff, like second battery etc. built in by the factory so that it is included in the tare weight when measured.
The 600kg payload would then be added to the tare to calculate the ATM.

I would certainly go with @Johnanbev suggestion of having them put all the gear into your rig when they build it and have it all done at the factory not when it gets to the dealers, you need it fitted out before they stamp and rivet the Compliance Plate anything added after the Comp Plate is fitted will eat into your load capacity and if you don't have it in writing and that includes a stipulation of weight then you will be stuffed, I would also add a additional agreement that a Weigh Bridge Ticket from a registered weigh bridge be provided before you accept delivery, do not accept delivery of the van if anything doesn't work or is below standard, flatly refuse it, for once you take it off the lot you will be in a battle to get things done, the world will be promised but then like others you will find there is a 3 month wait............... this is for any brand of van or car not just Jayco, they will stall till the first service is due.... living out your way you don't want to be stuffed around either................... Getting any rain ???
