Hi all, no doubt this has been discussed before but what is the solution for plugging in your van whilst at home?

I use Amp-Fibian also. Amp-Fibian is the easy option - especially if you drop in on family or friends that may not have a 15 Amp Socket.

Works good.
A friend of a friend suggested that I get it
Is that the 10/15A convert box from Bunnings i have heard about?

Have plugged the van into a 10A socket in the shed via an Amp-Fibian RV-02 and everything works without any problems - the Sparrow Air-Con and the Microwave work together without popping the circuit breaker.
has a cleat to secure the extension cord, is weather proof rated to IP44, RCD & Overload protection....
Find them on ebay and other online caravan/RV sites and all good stores!

Here you go Mate, A great Idea from another Forum member same as Amphibian but half the price... May not look as Shmick - But a rattle can colour of your choice or a few stickers could easily fix that

Based on some of the 15A plugs I had put in at my place for the large single phase irrigation pumps, each 15A circuit is meant to be dedicated to only one power point from the fuse box/RCD/circuit breaker to the point. The cost of having a sparky put this dedicated 15A circuit & plug in is easily offset by the cost of the 15A ->10A unit being offered by Rohan (http://www.expandasdownunder.com/showthread.php/1641-Plugging-your-Van-in-at-home-15Amp-10Amp-Converter-For-Sale) or even the AMP-Fibian. Also, this gives you options if you pull up somewhere that does not have a 15A plug if you are not remote.

Came with certificate of electrical safety etc
Although, that friend I hear everyone talk about is also a friend of mine (my parents' friend actually) and this friend has been using a special lead for a long time without any issues.
End of the day it's up to you mate but I err on the side of caution.

Amp-fibian for me. Ordered RV 01 from probar.com.au. $135.00 + $12.50 delivery. Better safe than sorry. Your friend the sparky will be long gone when you are trying to make an insurance claim.
Hi Paul, I use the Amp-Fibian (got it for about $180 on Ebay). Advantage is you can use anywhere. I will probably also add a 15amp outlet near van at home though. Sparky has quoted $240. With short lead would be so much tidier than the cord out the window at the moment.
yes i think caution is the best way forward here, the Amp fibian seems to be the one most suggested and all seem happy with it too

Basically it is a RCD with a Overload protector all in a nice Weatherproof enclosure.
If you do not plan on using it in the rain, I stumbled on this item on ebay, which is basically the same function, just not weather proof.
