It's a pressure limiting valve @Dobbie ... Unfortunatley a lot of the ones in Jayco vans work TOO WELL and can reduce the flow to almost nothing :o

They are used in the case of a van park, or someones home, having more pressure than required to blow the pipe or pipe fittings and should be fitted close as possible to the water inlet (And mostly under the van)!

A quick fix is to pull it out, pull it apart and stretch the spring to increase the pressure again. Have had to do that twice to ours so far so when wandering around Masters the week before closing I bought their last one to keep in the van so next time it happens I'll just change it over.... Same specs as @achjimmy 's new one and only $15 for a $69 item 8-)

If not needed I will sell to the highest bidder :peep:

Aaahhhh.

My total inexperience in this area is glaringly obvious.

It just shows you how often we bother to hook up water (and sullage) when in parks! From memory it was once, found it a pain to do, then had to disconnect it and put it away.

and, as said, I'm lazy! but I'll try to mend my ways.

I now know what the PRV looks like...thanks.

Idol curiosity (and will explain further later)

but

what happens if you take the lot out - completely - so it is free flowing..............??

Think @Drover did that? Probably nothing unless you get a park with over the top pressure?

The concept works well and is used in houses as wel. It's just Jayco's execution with crap quality part!

thats the reasoning for asking

I have one of those attached to my filtered water tap
and

I can spit faster than the water coming out

just wondering if I took the guts out, if it would improve it or screw it

I thought of doing it as the pressure sucks :) although the 20litre hot water tank and no pressure go together. Well at least I get some hot water being the second one in :)
Although I did see someone on another forum replace the hotwater with a instant system

Yep, I pulled the guts out of 2 of them so far and by experimenting removing the spring and other movable bits, leaving the flow reducer, the bit that lets water thru a 4mm hole, seems to have solved the problem, the HWS has it's own non return/tap/PRV unit on the inlet line as well as the one on the tank..........................leaving the reducer does stop shooting water from sink the other end of van if you do find a park with big pressure, mains water flush can be dangerous so don't forget to check flush first................................if the mains is at a high enough pressure to cause the John Guest fittings any problems your hose to the tap will blow off the fittings before the van lines start blowing.
I have thought a pressure gauge would be an interesting mod just to see what the mains pressures are......................

well, yes I forgot pictures - so shoot me now.................

I have a drinking fountain on the bench at home, next to the sink
it has continually had bad bad pressure from day 1 of installing it - takes about 4 minutes to fill a 500ml bottle of water
hated it and never used it for ages (as I had a 9gal water cooler for me........
anyway, water cooler went west with the Indians - died a slow painful death from over use last summer - I wasn't able to repair the cooling element, so off to the tip
so I have had to - under sufferance mind you - use the crappy thing at the sink

anyhow, got sick to death of how long it takes to fill anything up, so after being prompted by @achjimmy with his mod, and asking the above questions
I fixed it
D A Y A M
fills 500ml water bottle in about 3 seconds now
picture below is similar to what I had
reducer.JPG

BUT
both of the silver thingys in the picture on mine were reducer valves -
the bottom one, which was longer and slightly larger of the 2 had not 1 but 2 reducer valves in side it........so they were removed
the top one also had a reducer in it (which I could not work out how to remove - so it is still there)

but

I am happy as now.....................
