16' Series How do you keep your mattress from touching canvas/vinyl?

Hi All,
We have now waterproofed our bed ends, however in all of the tips that I have been given previously the one thing that stood out when trying to achieve no wicking / leaking was to make sure your bedding didn't touch the canvas.
My question is how do you all achieve this? Our "queen" bed touches the canvas without any linen on it, even when I have pulled it over as far as it can go, and made the bed end pole as large as possible! Does anybody put something between their bed and the canvas/vinyl?
All tips would be appreciated.

Haven't had the problem ourselves but have heard of people placing rolled up towels, sheets etc between the mattress and the vinyl part of the bed end. Also read somewhere on here of someone using one of those pool noodles.

I thought I saw a post on here a while ago about using a pool noodle, and also something else that was made of foam but flatter....but of course I can't remember what it was

If you get some storm covers where you eliminate the canvas getting wet should solve the issue as well @Mouse .

Haven't really bothered now that we have the bed end covers. When there has been rain, we slip on the Bed end covers and no problem. I am 200cm tall so often touch the canvas of the Expanda bed but the bed end cover is a good 5cm or more outside the privacy screen so no issue.

We used to use a silver fold up windscreen sun shield at the pillow end which did two things - kept things dry and reflected heat and acted as a pretty effective insulator.

Once I had proofed the canvas properky, never bothered as it didn't get wet, only had a privacy screen and went thru some good rain/storms and all was dry.

We only have the privacy screens, hubby didn't want the storm covers (although if we have trouble with waterproofing we will be upgrading). @Drover am hoping that now we have waterproofed properly we will be ok.

Yep @Mouse , best to stay away from the rain actually, my old rig was a 2009 with the good canvas, what I did was bees wax the thread, soak the whole thing in water, outside drenched inside not quite then when it was all nice and dried out I soaked it with waterproofing stuff, using a spray bottle, just the stuff you get from saddle shops for DrizA Bone coats and worked a treat......I kept the privacy screen nicely tensioned but even when a storm blew it off we stayed dry.........you need to respray with waterproof every year though.

Yep.

The trick is to keep the privacy screens nice and tight....add extra studs if necessary. Water just runs down them and doesn't affect the canvas.

Pool noodles, around the outer edge of the bed is a good trick for piece of mind, but if you run storm covers, then you really should be fine...

I would think pool noodles etc would cause water to touch mattress more easily. We go for an air gap.

But am very happy to be be wrong ....it happens often these days.

We use to a cheap exercise matt (EVA foam) cut in half 173x61cm $10 at Kmart.

I also made a couple clip on covers for under the privacy screens. Made them from roofing insulation (bubble wrap with a foil cover type ). Several bonuses. Blocks out all light so we can sleep in. Stops the wind flow through the canvas when its cold outside. Stops water bleeding through the canvas. Can't feel the heat from the sun cause it's reflected (same as the foil windscreen cover we originally used but better). Helps the aircon when temperatures are extreme. only takes a couple minutes to put them up or take them down when needed.Downside is the view from the windows is gone.

As with a lot of my stuff, looks a bit homemade but does the job.

Unzip the thin matress section along the outside edge of the mattress, chase the kids around the backyard with it ... and then throw it in the bin

Ive jettisoned it in both my Expandas. Found them annoting and of little value
