Hello,
We are buying a Jayco 17.56–1 and we have a ford Territory AWD we just need to know are their other people who have towed with this vehicle and did they need tow levellers?
Thank you for any help

I've had 2 Territory's and I always used a WDH with mine. They just tie the whole package together nicely.
I also had polyair bags in the rear and it towed great with this setup.

Hi Matty,
Thanks for your reply. We are concerned with the towing weight of the territory, did you have any bikes attached on your car or van. Also did you pack any more than clothes in the cupboards and food in the fridge in your 17.56-1 ?
We are concerned about the weight.

Is your AWD Terri petrol or diesel?
An AWD diesel will have a tow capacity of 2700kg, otherwise it's 2300kg.

I used to take 5 bikes on the back of the car and it would've been close to max towball weight, but the WDH and airbags helped enormously.
The van was always packed with whatever we needed to take. The back of the car usually just had an Engel and the bike helmets.

If you're getting a 17.56-1 touring your ATM should be well under 2300kg, my OB has an ATM of 2349kg with HWS, 2nd water tank and all the stuff a -1 doesn't have.

Hi @Kimy we have the same model van as yours we also had a 2011 Territory RWD Diesel. I had all the same concerns as you a did a bit of research on towing capacity as per this post :

http://www.expandasdownunder.com/threads/2011-pajero-nt-diesel.7896/#post-134479. Not all the information in this post is relevant but may be worth a read.

As you can see ours was a little to close to the mark for my liking but as you have an AWD which i believe has a 2700kg capacity it may be a different outcome for yourself.

Cheers

Kimmy,
We have TS AWD Territory and it's pulling a 2015 17.56-1 OB, generally have 3 bikes on the roof of the car, plus all the bits and pieces we need and the wife thinks we need. Yes, we use WDH as required by Ford typically drive around 90-95kph, typically don't throw the transmission into performance mode. And we average around the 15lts per 100km, the only time I've noticed the slight unhappiness in the Territory was pulling the van fully loaded up the hill from Marysville to the Big River camp area in the East of Melbourne. It's a tight twisty incredibly hilly road with lots of tight corners where you're travelling around 15-30-kph, the engine had no trouble pulling it just the drive train didn't like the constant torque load out of the corners.

Kimy,
We tow an 18.57.6 with an ATM of 2500kg with a current model Ford Territory diesel AWD. We use the genuine Ford WDH and the car sits beautifully level with the van attached.
