Ok guys, I am after some info regarding dual cabs. I have a starcraft 22.68-1 outback which has a gross of 3T. Anyone towing 3T with one of these. I wanted a 200 CRUISER BUT A DUAL CAB COULD BE MORE USEFUL. Any info appreciated.
Thanks

That's easy, get a Ranger

We only tow a lighter van 2t max but you forget it's there sometimes. Guy across road just bought a Ranger the other week and he picks up a 2? Foot silverline any day which will sit at around 3t so will see what he has to say when he gets it.

His previous tug was a late model chev Silverado which was a big unit so it will be interesting to see how the "little" Ranger goes compared to the big yank tank he had. Will know more in a few days.

I went from a d40 Navara which I owned from new for 5 years and loved it but the Ranger is better hands down. Now let the argument on which is best begin...

My Journey goes around 2.4 tonne and the BT50 pull that with ease. The Ranger with the same engine, drive train etc would be the same, just a little bit dearer. I find it a very comfortable truck to drive and having come from a D22 Navara, the last of the 3 litre engines, this beast leaves it for dead,

Don't forget the Amarok, I won't buy another Hilux as they just lack on so may things not least of which is comfort and ride.

The Amarok comes with the widest tray and just seems to be the goods. Around here the Vdubs are starting to become the norm, at a paddock field day a week or two back more than half the Utes there were amaroks.

I do love my 200 series wagon but for dual cabs I think the Amarok is up there, the only problem is it isn't rated to tow 3500.

Sorry but having owned VW car (not ute), would never buy another. Too many stupid faults and once out of warranty, cost a small fortune for parts. I purchased from UK dealers when the freight wasn't too much and saved big time, albeit with a wait. Adelaide main dealer seldom had parts in stock anyway so even they had a delay.
My Navara D40 is obviously an older model now but we still cope with towing 3T Basestation.
Mate had one of the early Rangers of current model and was in the garage more often than on the road but they appear to have sorted out most issues now. My choice from your list would be the Ranger /BT50.

Thanks guys for all the info.
Looks like the Ranger / BT50 is most peoples choice.
Interesting though I always thought that the Hilux were underpowered etc but the new one really impressed me. It was actually very comfortable especially in the back, I would nearly go as far as saying it was the most comfortable.
Has any one got a new one and towed with it?

Might as well blow the trumpet for the Colorado. I've no complaints and I'm confident that it'd tow the big 22ftr. I'd be wary of the Triton and Hilux's capability to tow the 3t comfortably, or at least legally.

Edit: Should point out that our new van comes in a little shorter than the 22ft so it better tow a van this size comfortably!

don't have a ute, but have looked at them a fair bit, for me it would be a Ranger / BT 50 with the new BT 50 cheaper, but doesn't appear as nice as the Ranger - both very capable.

Hi Phill,
we have the new face lift Ranger Wildtrak and tow a new Basestation 23.73-6 outback, we put a boat on a trailer in the back and it weighs in at 3.5tone and the ranger tows it like a dream, we had late model mitsubishi pajero before and it struggled a bit.
We are over the moon with the Wildtrak and would strongly recommend the upgrade as all the extra features make it a cool truck

I have a 2013 PX Ranger as a tow car. Tows our Jayco Journey quite well. It weighs about 2300 kgs loaded. I use a scangauge 2 to monitor the transmission temperature when towing. Two of our friends have the same model and one is used ro tow a 23ft 3t Retreat. Both are very happy with theirs as well. You can look up back issues of Caravan World, which have done many reviews of tow vehicles including Utes. With my Ranger I bought the factory extended warranty, NOT THE RUBBISH DEALER EXTENDER WARRANTY, so I am covered for 6 years and 200,000 Kms. Good piece of mind I think.
Cheers
Nick

Looks like a ranger is my best option. Really wanted a 200 series cruiser or dodge Ram but they are so very expensive.

Have to agree with @Smergen Colorado does a great job and towing Big Mal (a 21ft Coromal Lifestyle) doesn't give it any problems and the new one is supposed to be even better..................know of 2 BT's that have needed engine changes, under warranty so is a bit scary. Was discussed on here somewhere also.

Why not the BT50? Absolutely great towing vehicle, plenty of power. Just ask all the other BeasT owners on this forum. Oh well, sure that whatever you choose there will be deriders as well as supporters of your choice.
Good hunting! Marv and the BeasT!
PS: very comfortable inside, just like a normal family sedan. Hardly notice towing with great fuel economy (12-14 l /100km). Just check the stats on my trip blogs. Lots of grunt when you need to pass or climb that big hill. 3T towing with ease. The XTR we bought was supplemented with rear view cam, 2way radio, extra 12V power points in the tub, canopy, tub liner. Never regretted it for one second. Off on our third half circle in June. Sure also that you can dig up stories of any vehicle where people have had problems/issues. I have not found or spoken to any BeasT owner that has nothing but praise for their BT.
