Has anyone got some good suggestions on where to stop for one night when travelling from Melbourne to Port Stephen's? (Traveling via Hume Hwy).To big a drive for one day, would like to stop for a night and arrive lunch timeish the next day. We are heading there in Jan and staying at a Koala Shore for 10 nights on a water front site. Never been there before. :05.18-flustered:

Not much after Gunning other than some hwy stops with 150semis per hour roaring past thru the night.
Into Sydney at 10 out by 2 is always a good rule for driving thru the mongrel cities.

10-2 would be a good window although no real good time through Sydney even weekends :)
Travelling with kids we always just wikicamp when we getting close to stopping. Although have not free camped as yet apart from front yards of houses.
If your doing 7-8 hours in a day might be nice to have a nice RSL dinner and a shower in the morning. Find a cheap clean caravan park

We did that trip a couple of years ago and stopped at Holbrook over night. There are plenty of caravan parks if that your preference along the way. Most are inexpensive.

It is possible to do in on day but it's a "big' day. Did it coming home because the roads are good and once we got to Albury the family wanted to just get home.

Coming home might be better although you have that 30 mins or so around Sydney.. 10-2pm weekdays be ok to get through.
Not want to hit it later. So what time you leave Melb would say with stops 10 hours.. So would need to leave early. or leave in Melb rush and try to get through after Sydney rush..
Or be happy to go slow while everyone cuts you off :)

A good stop is Ulladulla, Burrill Lake, Lake Tabourie all around the same area. Then its about a 5hr drive to Port Stephens.
