Hey,
We are looking at buying a display model pop top expanda - the 17.56-2 Outback. Hopefully we will soon be doing some detailed inspections, and if it all checks our handing over a deposit. What sort of things should we be check for on these display model? Is there anything in particular that we should look for? I would imagine for displays models everything would be much more likely to be fine, than when purchasing a 2nd hand van.

Congrats mate we brought our second van floor stock yes not been used like 2nd hand although probably had more foot traffic :) Most of the vans with new colours etc come in feb-march so you expect its been there 9 months and everyone and their kids been through jumping on everything every day or at lest 6 days a week for 9 months :) plate should tell you when made. Ours was 3/15 we picked up in September.
So check for scratches, dints and things broken like draw runners and handles etc. You assume the dealer cleaned up these beforehand.. well you hope. They will afterwards although you probably not want to go back for a while.
Check the canvas ends some dealers leave the van setup overnight and might of been for lots of nights.
Make sure it all closes etc..

Apart from that as said Jayco will fix things for you under warranty.. Our floor stock van we picked up interstate took to the local park one of the drop down jacks was buggered.. Went back to dealer grabbed some tools and swapped over. Apart from that nothing was wrong when we got it.
Had a few little problems since nothing major fixed at service.

Well, we picked up our van today! Thanks for the helpful advice. Your suggestion to look at the manufacture date on the compliance plate was very useful. Our van was made October 2018, so it looks like it wasn't there for public inspection too long!

When we arrived to inspect they had just finished high pressure hosing it, which was actually very useful. We identified a number of very minor leaks around the ends that way. Apart from that the only issues were a crack on one of the plastic bits that holds the ladder to the top bunk (it had been screwed on to tight, and split) and some of the rubber sealing around the front pop off bit was loose.

Apart from that no issues and the van seems in great shape!

Just check your wheel nuts are done up, no joke, wheels have fallen off after leaving dealers.....................Give your water lines a good flush both mains and pump including the water tanks, even take the fill lines off the tank and flush away to get bits of plastic swirl out of the lines, nothing worse than blockages while on holiday.............Run your stove and oven for awhile to burn things in including running HWS and Fridge on gas, they will stink like crazy for awhile so better to do it at home....Make sure with the HWS you fill it with water by turning on a hot tap till it stops spitting so the air is out then with water still connected turn on the HWS...also with the HWS assuming you have a surburban system, inside the outer panel is a little black rocker switch for the 240 turn this on and leave it on, inside hte van you will find a lead from the HWS going to a power point, turn your system on/off with this point, the outside switch is a bit dicky, never leave the 240 on, no water could cook the system.

Make sure your jack will lift the van once you have your junk in it then just sit back and dream away..............................its a great adventure.
