If your planning to head up here to the Great Sandy NP/ Cooloola Recreation Area check with the QPWS

at present camping is restricted to South of Red Canyon on Teewah Beach while Freshwater Camp and the Freshwater Track are closed due to bushfires till Dec 27, thats a big area closed off at the moment so access to Double island Point is only via Rainbow Beach or from the south at Tewantin...........the water and dump point at Freshwater is accessable from beach only.

Total Fire Ban in all QLD National Parks and Forests:

Due to the current fire situation, all Queensland's national parks and forests now have fire restrictions in place until conditions ease.

This means no open fires in any park, anywhere in the state, regardless of the local fire danger.

The following cooking and heating appliances must not be used:

  • wood fires, including open campfires and fires in braziers, drums, other open containers,
  • QPWS supplied fire-rings and barbeques, and
  • ash producing fuels, heat beads, Oz-pigs and similar appliances.
  • Gas barbecues with a hooded lid can be used if done so safely, in an appropriate area away from vegetation and only for the purposes of cooking.

This restriction applies to most of the National parks and State Forest parks in Queensland until 29th February 2020. And a lot of creeks have ceased to run and the surrounding bush land is tinder dry! So please heed this warning. We have enough small fires up here at present caused by idiots, without making any big additional ones!! Stay safe this Christmas and protect the environment and peoples' homes from destruction . I love the bush!! Please pray for good rains.
