Hi all,

Looking to upgrade the camper and keen have found an Expanda we like for the right price. Just wanting some feedback on others experience towing with a similar setup. The Santa Fe is a diesel 07 model with a 2000kg capacity but only 150 on the ball. The Expanda in question is 1410 tare with a... 150 ball mass. the Santa Fe does have a lift kit (King Springs) and air bags. Realise its right on the limit and loading would be critical, but figured we couldn't be the first to tow an Expanda with a Santa Fe?!?

Cheers.

It's a used one from a dealer. The dealer thinks it would be fine (funny that!). If you load it right I figure the ball weight shouldnt change much? Say 50 kg both 1m in front and behind the axle should still result in the same ball weight right?

After a bit of digging the caravan industry defines the Santa Fe tow ball limit as 150kg stock, or 180kg for the ones fitted with a trek and tow pack (heavier springs). There's a handy reference guide here : https://intranet.virginblue.internal/intranet/servlet/Page/staffTravel/index.html

So that gave us enough comfort to lash out - so were now the happy owners of a 08 hard lid expanda. Anyone fancy an 05 Finch?!?

Got it from a yard, but it's a 2011 with 50000km and 3 1/2 yrs warranty left so that's peace of mind too! Its got the 2.5l diesel with a 4 Speed auto. I read somewhere the 5 speed in the GLX-R coulnt quite handle the 400nm of torque so they de-rated the engine to 350NM. Not sure how true that is though. Looking forward to seeing how it goes!
