Approx 17 kms outside of Goondiwindi. Well signed. Bit grubby when we got there, so Dean grabbed the garbage bag and cleaned up. Doesn't seemed to be serviced at all by the local council as the rubbish looked to be a bit old. Rainbow reserve is located on the Macintyre River.
It was a nice spot. Scenic. great for canoeing. Swimming - bit hard to navigate in without getting mud on your feet. Nevertheless, we went in and the water was lovely.
This was the first spot we picked outside of Goondiwindi. If we had of been more patient and checked out the other free camping spots along the road we would have found better. Oh well, we will go back and visit the nicer spots next time.
Rainbow reserve was quiet. You need to be self sufficient. See pictures for some visual stimulation. We caught lots of blue claw, so bring your pots.
If you can, you should check out Yellowbank reserve which is on the Dumaresq River. I was very impressed. Bengalla Reserve is equally good - more space here for vans. Yellowbank cannot handle many vans at the same time. I didn't get pictures of Yellowbank or Bengalla, but you won't be disappointed.
Would be nice to get some expandas away for a week to one of these places one day.
