Portable 12v fridge why is PSU 14.2V for mains

I just bought a Brass monkey 36l fridge freezer 12v. I was setting up to test the fridge on mains using the supplied PSU when I noticed the PSU is 14.2v 6amp. Is this right?. I thought you needed to run 12v appliances on 12v so why is the PSU 14.2v. will this damage the fridge.Thanks

If it is one of these 36L Brass Monkey Dual Zone Fridge / Freezer | Road Tech Marine the spec sheet says 12 - 24V so you have no problems. 14.2V is the charging voltage of most automotive systems.

As @icetechaus mentioned it wont damage it but its almost a charger rather than a power supply. As far a 14.2v goes, we all have all sorts a of 12v goodies (such as your fridge) running off the car batter whilst the battery is being charge vua alternator/solar etc at voltages upto 15v. Most power supplies are probably somewhere btw 12.2ish and 13.5ish, so youll be fine
