I have a 2014 17-56.2 outback and have just ordered a custom made toolbox to fit the gas bottles and a slide out for the babyq. Pictures to come soon when it arrives. Now to move the spare to under the back, but wanting to see how jayco now do it before buying a 4wd drop down spare winch and getting a bracket made for it to bolt under the rear behind the second water tank. Does anyone have any pics underneath of the new setup in case I can buy that now from jayco and retrofit or get them to do this at my service booked in for March.

Thanks vasco and big col. Vasco I am thinking to go your way. Can I ask how you go getting access to wind the wheel down?

I went to the caravan show on Sunday and the spare is now mounted under the chassis to the front of the step. They use the same winch but use it to lower a cradle that holds the wheel.

I drilled a 12 mm hole through my rear bumper and purchased an extendable winder from Toyota which I had to slightly modify to fit in the winder slot To cover the holes in bumper I just put a rubber gormet each side that just push in easily to the holes and look nice and neat. Hope this helps.

Hi Vasco,
Did you make the wind down yourself or buy one? If you brought it, where do you get hold of one?
Wicked idea. I'm wanting to do exactly what "Createit" wants to do.
Cheers

Wreckers want about $80 for one, I mounted mine in some "C" channel and bolted it between the rails but sadly have to crawl underneath to wind it down due to a minor measurement error of 10mm meant the drop down leg is in the way off winder.

I did my under rear spare wheel conversion by using a length of Gal c section bolted above the existing rear bumper mounting bolts. This Holds the wheel up high and out of the way and no drilling of the chassis neccesary
IMG_1390.JPG Gal C section with winch off a mitsubishi triton bought from wreckers for $50
IMG_1392.JPGUse lengthened gal bolts to replace existing bolts where the rear bumper slides into the rear chassis

IMG_1391.JPG Made up an extension rod out of gal water pipe and welded a gal bolt into it. Just use a socket and rachet or cordless drill to lower and raise.
